Golden text: Psalms 119:57-58*

The Lord is my portion; I promise to keep your words. 58 I entreat your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.

Luke 24:44-49

Then [Jesus] said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The world may lack spirituality, and people may not be able to keep a promise or make a home happy, but human minds are demanding spiritual understanding and reformed attitudes.

As with any reform, a transition period will be felt. Transition periods are often unsettling and undesirable, however, why buck the trend when the reform compels us to find permanence and peace in a more spiritual devotion?

If we follow Christ on all moral questions but are in darkness as to the physical exemption which spirituality includes, then we must have more faith in God on this subject and be more alive to Spirit’s promises.

Be aware of how your promises to another will influence your own growth and other people’s lives.

Voices of solemn import are heard in the sacred sanctuary of Truth. Are we heeding these voices? If so, we are burying error and resurrecting to spiritual life. These signs are seen when the temporary pleasures and pains pass away from our lives.

Truth will be to us “the resurrection and the life”[1] only as it destroys all error.

The appearance of good, as was promised by Jesus, establishes the divine system among humanity. Now, as in earlier times, signs and wonders are meant to elucidate the divine origin and to substantiate the reality of Truth—to attest to the higher mission of Science to take away the sins of the world.

Acts 2:38-41

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Human will-power is liable to all evil. The willfulness of human mind can never heal the sick. Contrastingly, the exercise of spirituality—hope, faith, love—is the prayer of the righteous. The healing prayer is governed by Science instead of personal mortal senses.

If unfortunate circumstances places promising children in the arms of gross parents, often these beautiful children wither like tropical flowers born in the snowy Alps. If by chance those children live to become parents themselves, they may pass along to their children the grosser traits of what they were taught when growing up. Society can ask: What noble ambition can inspire the child to overcome bad traits? What hope of happiness can be gained to head-off reducing the child to a hopeless wreck?

Raising children is a great responsibility, a more solemn trust than climbing the corporate ladder or accumulating material possessions. Take immense care not to transmit to children what is unworthy of perpetuity.

To advance humankind, the development of mortals must improve. The scientific essence of marriage is unity. Having sex is acceptable for the purpose of reproducing a higher human species, but every stage of child-bearing must be kept mentally pure with the sanctity of virginity.

Educate children to form habits agreeable to moral and spiritual laws. Children are better prepared to meet and master the limitations imposed by physical laws—especially the laws that breed disease and disorder—when they are obedient to moral and spiritual laws.

Parents, if you allow your children incessantly to play computer games, want stuff, or be picky, don’t complain later in life if your children are complicated or frivolous. Be accountable. Worry less “about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear,”[2] and pro-actively grow together in the understanding of man and woman’s higher nature. Children can still retain their innocence while maturing. You will do more than imaginable when you also mature along with the children.

If a spouse deserts the partnership, certainly the lone mate can single-handedly be self-reliant and independent. Individuals are equally capable to succeed in the business world, earn an education, own real estate, and care for the children and home, without interference.

Don’t keep records of the aging process. Chronological data is no part of the vast forever. Charts of births, stages, and deaths are so many conspiracies against manhood and womanhood. Measuring and limiting all that is good and beautiful is an age-old habit. If not for that routine, we would enjoy our advanced years and still be vigorous, light-hearted, and full of promise. Governed by spiritual Mind, we are always graceful and noble. Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty, and holiness.

“Now,” urged the apostle, “is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”[3] This doesn’t mean that now we must prepare for a future-world salvation or safety, but that right now we can experience salvation in spirit and in life. Now is the time for temporary pains and pleasures to pass away, for both are unreal. To break this earthly spell, human beings must get the true idea and divine Principle of all that really exists. The understanding of what governs the universe harmoniously is comprehended slowly and it comes with doubts and disappointments, as well as successes.

It’s the lack of spirituality which hides real beauty and strength, whereas purer mindsets see immortal goodness. Understanding this, Paul said: “Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God.”[4] This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love can’t be deprived of its manifestation or object; that happiness can’t be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of happiness; that good can never produce evil; that dust can’t produce mind; and that life can’t result in death. God’s unspoiled child—governed by its whole Principle—is sinless and eternal.

Romans 4:13-24

For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. 18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. 22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” 23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, 24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

21st Century Science and Health

From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over mortality. Moses proved the power of Mind by what people called miracles; as did Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha. What was eventually tagged the Christian era was ushered in with signs and wonders, yet the reformations were accompanied by bloodshed and persecution, even when the end showed brightness and peace. The present new, yet old, reform in religious faith will patiently and wisely teach us not to give in to sectarian bitterness when it flows inward.

The divine Science of Scriptures can’t be totally obscured, even up against religious officials who vote to decide what should or shouldn’t be considered Holy Writ, and up against bad translations. As in the past, misinterpretations of Scripture occur today. However, the prophets healing work can’t be annulled or lost, and healing demonstrations are intact, confirming that “the stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.”[5]

If our thinking is no better than blind faith, the Science of healing is not attained and Soul-existence, in the place of molecular existence, is not comprehended. We understand Life in divine Science only as we let go of limited views and attain spiritual views. The amount of good or of evil admitted determines the harmony of our existence—our health, our longevity, and our spirituality.

Human will-power is liable to all evil. The willfulness of human mind can never heal the sick. Contrastingly, the exercise of spirituality—hope, faith, love—is the prayer of the righteous. The healing prayer is governed by Science instead of personal mortal senses.

Divine Science inspires religion and medicine with a more God-like nature and essence. Science gives new strength to faith and understanding, and thoughts intelligently acquaint themselves with God.

Harmony is produced, controlled, and sustained by Principle, forever. Divine Principle is our Life.

The perceptions and realities of mortal thought either die or give way to the spiritual discovery of completeness and eternity. Through many generations, human beliefs reach diviner conceptions and the immortal model of God’s revelation is finally seen as the only true concept of being.
