Golden text: John 20:17*

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Mark 12: 18-27

Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to [Jesus] with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

A solid marriage is one that signifies a union of hearts. The time comes, however, when Jesus declared that in the resurrection “people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; but they will be like the angels in heaven.”[1]

Until it is learned that God is Father-Mother, marriage will continue. Let not mortals permit a disregard of law which might lead to a worse state of society than now exists.

Natural history is richly endowed by the labors and genius of great people. Modern breakthroughs, biotechnology, in vitro fertilization, and cloning, have brought to light important facts in regard to supposed embryonic life. But, to suppose life germinates in anything other than Mind is a blunder. All theories within the material realm never reach past the temporal. They will finally give place to higher theories and demonstrations.

It’s not complicated. In the last century, our thinking has shifted dramatically from believing life originates sexually or asexually through an egg, bud, or self-division. Biotechnology can now claim that life starts in the laboratory. But, should we look at a bud, a cell, or DNA as the starting point of the most complicated bodily structures, including those which we call human life? Unless this question is answered with some metaphysical consideration, physical research will be random and open to vulnerability and death. It’s no wonder our theories and experiences will continue to change as programmed human thinking is replaced by spiritual reality.

Sincerity and virtue ensure the stability of the marriage promise. Spirit will ultimately claim its own, and all that really is, as the voices of physical sense are forever silenced.

I Cor. 15: 29-34

Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30 And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? 31 I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised,

“Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.”

33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.

Jesus’ unchanged physical state after the resurrection posits a progressive state beyond the grave. The spiritual growth that allowed Jesus to rise from the dead was increased even more to allow him to ascend.

As we shift our faith and attention from the pains and pleasures of temporal sense to the study of the Science of divine Mind, we get better instead of worse. Suffering, imprisonment, and destruction are not natural disciplinarians. The whole human family can be redeemed through the excellence of Christ—through the perception and acceptance of Truth. For this magnificent result, Christian or divine Science lights the torch of spiritual understanding.

If your patient believes in catching cold, you can mentally convince him or her that physical particles cannot get sick and that thought governs this liability. If grief causes suffering, convince the sufferer that affliction often causes a mental shift toward joy, found in ever present Love.

I Cor. 15:35-50

35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

Progress removes restraints. The finite must yield to the infinite. Advancing to a higher plane of action, consciousness moves from the limited sense to the unlimited, from the scholastic to the inspirational, and from the mortal to the immortal. All things are created spiritually. Mind, not isolatable energy, is the creator. Love, the divine Principle, is the Father-Mother of the universe and us.

Advancing spiritual steps in the teeming universe of Mind leads to spiritual spheres and beings, however, the divine universe is hidden and mysterious to materialist sense. Metaphysical Science lifts the curtain and shifts the scene into light.

In Revelation it is written: “I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.”[2] In St. John’s vision, heaven and earth stand for spiritual ideas, and the sea—a symbol of storm-tossed human concepts advancing and receding—is represented as having passed away. The divine understanding is all, and there is no other consciousness.

Because St. John’s corporeal sense of the heavens and earth had vanished, and in place of this limited sense was the spiritual sense, the subjective state by which he could see the new heaven and new earth which involve the spiritual idea and consciousness of reality. This is Scriptural credibility for concluding that such a recognition of being is, and has been, possible in this present state of existence—that we can become conscious, here and now, of a cessation of loss, sorrow, and pain. This is indeed a foretaste of absolute Christian Science. Take heart, dear sufferer, for this reality of being will surely appear sometime and in some way. There will be no more pain and all tears will be wiped away. When you read this, remember Jesus’ words, “The kingdom of God is within you.”[3] This spiritual consciousness is therefore a present possibility.

Quoting from science & religion to God

Jesus’ body was the same before and after death, establishing the idea that the mortal body is not the essence of being. This image of a resurrection indicates that mortal mindsets die, while immortal mindsets live.

Truth causes us to be honest and care for ourselves and the environment. Love causes us to better ourselves, to fight for and share in a practical, meaningful life. We eventually realize that the consciousness of love is the only asset worth taking with us whether we move, change our image, or die.

We move toward good or evil as time passes. Past failures will be repeated until we destroy spiritual idleness, self-gratification, shameless competitiveness, blaming others, envy, hypocrisy, hate, revenge, and materialism.

Reform comes when bad thoughts and behaviors are destroyed by good. Reform comes by a shift in thought and reasoning.

Each time we gain more correct views of God, the invisible becomes visible. Life expands into self-completeness and we find all in God.
