Golden text: Psalm 124:6-8

Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Genesis 49:1, 16-18

Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come.

16 “Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan shall be a serpent in the way, a viper by the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that his rider falls backward. 18 I wait for your salvation, O Lord.

Dan (Jacob’s son). Hypnotism; alleged human mind controlling human mind; error, working out the designs of error; one belief preying on another.

Pay attention: it is the brutish, animal instinct in human beings which triggers them to devour each other.

The spiritual idea isn’t devious, but evil will habitually impose its own shifty nature and methods on the true idea. Error’s malicious cruel instinct incites humans to kill each other morally and physically, and worse yet, to blame the innocent for the crime. This last weakness of sin will pull its perpetrator into the black hole of oblivion.

From Genesis to Revelation, the snake or dragon represents revenge, hatred, envy, death, and disease—all evil. From beginning to end, the dragon pursues the spiritual idea with malice. The snake is perpetually close on the heel of harmony. In Genesis, the allegorical talking snake illustrates mortal human mind “more cunning than any beast of the field.”[1] In Revelation, the error increases and becomes the great red dragon, swollen with negativity, inflamed with war against spirituality, and near its doom. Error is full of greed and spite, detesting the brightness of divine glory.

Since God is All, there is no dimension for something unlike Spirit. God alone designed all, and called it good.[2] Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and can’t be the product of God. A limited, contradictory mindset can receive no encouragement from the fact that Science demonstrates the unreality of limitation and sin, for the contradictor would make a reality of that which opposes Life, Truth, and Love; would make that real which is unreal, and store up “wrath and indignation.”[3] Do not join in a conspiracy against yourself. Continue to recognize the awful unreality by which the human mind is deceived. Repent, think differently, abandon the unnatural and you can fully understand the unreality of that which argues against the infinite.

Isaiah 10:1-3, 12-13

Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees,
and the writers who keep writing oppression,
to turn aside the needy from justice
and to rob the poor of my people of their right,
that widows may be their spoil,
and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
What will you do on the day of punishment,
in the ruin that will come from afar?
To whom will you flee for help,
and where will you leave your wealth?

12 When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes. 13 For he says:

“By the strength of my hand I have done it,
and by my wisdom, for I have understanding;
I remove the boundaries of peoples,
and plunder their treasures;
like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.

Bear in mind, the higher nature of a person is not controlled by the lower more baneful nature; if it were the order of wisdom would be reversed. Our immature views of life hide eternal harmony and produce the problems of which we complain. Even though human beings believe in mortal laws—which by default causes people to disbelieve the Science of Mind—that believing does not make the mortal laws superior to the laws of Soul.

Mortals ultimately claim nothing in the end, and Spirit receives its own. Learn from experience. Learn respect, self-control, patience, and a reliable happiness that comes from spiritual growth.

Acts 16:16-31

16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” 18 And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.

19 But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. 20 And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 21 They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” 22 The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. 24 Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. 27 When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29 And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

The belief that one person, as spirit, can control another person, as matter, upsets the individuality and Science of God’s child, image. Mind controls all images, and God is the only Spirit. Any other control or attraction of so-called spirit is a mortal belief, which ought to be known by its fruit—the repetition of evil.

If Spirit, or God, communed with human beings or controlled them through channelers—or any other form of matter/energy—the divine order and the Science of omnipotent, omnipresent Spirit would be destroyed.

Good does not design a mind susceptible of causing evil or of being confused, for evil and confusion contend with creation. Destructive energy is not the outcome of infinite good. Whatever contradicts the real nature of the divine esse, though human faith may cover the contradiction in an angelic costume, is without foundation.

In Science, person did not originate intelligence, but is manifested through intelligence. The appearance that there is intelligence or soul inside person has no relation to the Life reality.

Science depicts disease as error, as matter versus Mind. Reverse error, and the facts of health are witnessed. To forecast your future according to the world, infringes on spiritual law and misguides your hopes. We are sustained under all circumstances as we have faith in the divine Principle of health and as we spiritually understand God. The ordinary appeal to have faith in the world’s ways and means must yield to faith in the all-might of infinite Spirit.

Throughout the infinite cycles of eternal existence, Spirit and matter never agree in person or in the universe.

The variety of doctrines and theories which presuppose life, consciousness, and intelligence to exist in human mind are so many ancient and modern mythologies. Mystery, miracle, sin, and death will disappear when it becomes fairly well understood that the divine Mind controls us and we have no Mind but God.

Divine reason and revelation coincide. If we believe otherwise, we may be sure that either our logic is a fault or that we have misinterpreted revelation. Good never causes evil and good doesn’t create anything that can cause evil.

The counsel of Love recognizes and respects only the divine control of Spirit, of which Soul is our master and mortal human mindsets have no place.
