PBS posted online a history of America’s Independence Day

Declaring independence in America didn’t come easy. The declaration was the result of mixed thoughts that soon united to design a plan of improvement.

But, they were up against the American thinkers who were loyal to the British king. The people devoted to the king were okay with taxation without representation. They were okay with a king who didn’t listen to his constituents. They were okay with working hard for no rewards.

Despite the satisfied colonists, the dissatisfied colony members convened together as the Continental Congress. It took a few gatherings but on June 11, 1776, they started hashing out what formally became the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The declaration circulated publicly and was read. It was understood, not so much as an affront to the king, but as an admittance of progress.

In the Introduction to the 6th edition of 21st Century Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, we read, “Progress is a law of divine Spirit. Its force embraces us, keeps us grounded and yet allows us to soar.”

A few details should be remembered: After independence was declared, a war for that freedom had to be fought; and moreover, independence for African-Americans in slavery wasn’t granted.

More steps were needed to experience a greater independence. More steps are necessary today because progress is infinite, just as freedom is.

Congress established Independence Day as a holiday in 1870, and in 1938 Congress reaffirmed it as a paid holiday for federal employees.

July 4 can be celebrated with fireworks, an apple pie, parades, waving the flag.

I remember a time when my church group went to a retirement home to sing patriotic songs for the 4th.

A cafeteria room full of senior citizens. Quite a few appeared docile and unresponsive. Yet, as we sang, and as the piano hummed out tunes, eyes got brighter, voices got stronger and started joining in with the chorus. During the third song, men began standing and saluting, or holding their hand over their heart.

It brought tears to my eyes. These men and women had survived World War II and other wars. They encourage me to further understand independence with deeper and broader views.

Please read in your Bible, Romans 6.

Posted online at National Review, is an article written by Thomas Sowell, What are we Please read in your Bible, Romans 6.Celebrating? It reads in part: “Independence Day signified much more than one country announcing its independence from another on July 4, 1776. It represented a new form of government — freer and more accountable to its own people than the monarchies common around the world for centuries. What happened in America did not stay in America. The example of freedom inspired other peoples in other lands.”

In divine Science, we fight for freedom from restricted or oppressed thinking. Our independence inspires others and ourselves, because it’s ongoing. There is no end to progress and freedom. We can declare and fight for independence from sinful, sick thoughts and experiences. I believe we gain independence when we are dependent on Truth, God.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Truth encourages the elements of freedom.

The voice of God in behalf of all people is reverberating around the world as the spokesperson of the new revolution sounds the keynote of universal mental freedom. A fuller acknowledgement of our rights as useful spiritual individuals, demands the terrors of sin and sickness be exterminated from the human mind. Spiritual freedom is gained, not through human warfare, but through spiritual Science.

God has built a higher platform of human rights, on divine claims. These claims are not made through human regulations or creeds, but in demonstration of “Peace upon earth among men of goodwill!”[1] Human policies, scholastic theology, and inconsistent health care systems divide and scatter faith and spiritual understanding. Divine Science comes to the rescue and our birthright of sole allegiance to our Maker asserts itself.

We can be saved from the bureaucratic and rote systems of today’s Pharaohs. The disabled, the deaf, the dumb, the depressed, the visually impaired, the sick, the sensualist, the sinner, can be saved from the terrors of their own beliefs. Don’t waste your years away by serving an unreal master telling you that the body governs you rather than Mind. You can break the bondage, however you must then press on with faith in God through an awful conflict, the Red Sea and the wilderness, as you trust Truth, the strong deliverer, to guide your thought into the land of divine Science. In the divine land, or state of consciousness, limitations are overcome and your rights are known and acknowledged.

Oppressive civil laws are disputed and human beings are taught their right to freedom. From this same standpoint, mental laws can be disputed. The self-sabotaging mortal laws must be denied and succeeded. The law of the divine Mind must end human repression, or human beings will continue to be unaware of their inalienable rights. People are prone to hopeless obsessions and anguish because public teachers permit an unawareness of divine power.

Discerning the rights of people, we can’t fail to foresee the doom of oppression. Trepidation and misery are not legitimate states of people. God made us free. Paul said, “I was born a citizen.”[2] Humanity should be free to help themselves and society. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”[3] Love and Truth make free, whereas evil and error lead into captivity.

Divine Science raises the standard of freedom and says: “Follow me! Escape from the control of sick, sinful, and dying knowledge!” Jesus designated the way. Citizens of the world, accept the “glorious freedom of the children of God,”[4] and be free! This is your divine right. The self-deluded idolatrous views, not divine law, has captivated you, made you arthritic, made you a procrastinator, weakened your body, and ruined your reputation.

God did not institute physical laws to control us. We do not have to get sick because we broke a human-made health law. Jesus healed in direct opposition to, and in defiance of, physical laws and conditions.

To be dependent on that which is constantly changing is not reasonable. False dependencies will cease as we recognize our God-given dominion over the temporal senses and acknowledge our heritage of freedom. Human beings will someday assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God. Dropping our present beliefs, we will recognize harmony as the spiritual reality, and disorder as the temporal unreality. We will control our own bodies through the understanding of divine Science.

Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence. God has endowed us with inalienable rights among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. We are properly self-governed only when we are guided rightly and governed by our Maker, divine Truth and Love. Our rights are invaded when the divine order is interfered with and the mental malpractitioner incurs the divine penalty for this crime.

When judging Christian Science, sanction only such methods as are demonstrable in Truth and known by their fruits. Classify other methods that suggest futile or backward behavior as did Paul in his epistle to the Galatians, when he wrote: “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”[5]

Spiritual harmony constitutes individual and collective happiness, strength, and permanence.

Guard against narrowness and jealousy because they restrict productive behavior. Home is not a boundary of the affections, but is a framework from which to grow spiritually.

Moral freedom is found in Soul.

Golden text: Hosea 2: 20-21

I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord. 21 “In that day I will respond,” declares the Lord—“I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth;

I Kings 18: 15-26

Elijah said, “As the Lord Almighty lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today.”

16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?”

18 “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals. 19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”

But the people said nothing.

22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”

Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”

25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.” 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it.

Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Our responses need improvement if we typically say things like, “You look sick,” “You must be tired.” or “You need a pill.”

Why do people run to a child who has fallen, and whine childishly “Oh, poor thing, I know you hurt”? The better and more successful response to adopt is: “You’re Okay, let’s think about what’s good.” Soon the child forgets all about the accident and is directed to positive activity.

Some people respond slowly to the touch of Truth. Some people feel Truth’s touch without a struggle. Many people are reluctant to admit that they have responded to Truth; however, if they don’t admit their improvement, the boastings of evil will shout over good.

I Kings 18: 27-39

At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.

30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Your name shall be Israel.” 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood.”

34 “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again. “Do it a third time,” he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.

36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”

From 21st Century Science and Health

If you believe that you are sick, is it better to say, “I am sick”? No, although you should sometimes responsibly tell other people you are sick in order to protect them. If you commit a crime, should you acknowledge to yourself that you are a criminal? Yes. Your responses differ because of the different effects they produce. Usually to admit that you are sick renders your case less curable, while to recognize your sin, helps destroy it. Both sin and sickness are error, and Truth is their remedy. The truth regarding error is that error is not true, hence it is unreal. To prove scientifically the error or unreality of sin, you must first see the claim of sin and then destroy it. Whereas, to prove scientifically the error or unreality of disease, you must mentally stop perceiving the disease; then you will not feel it and disease is destroyed.

Galatians 2: 1-2, 6-7

Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.

As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message. On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

Systematic teaching and the student’s spiritual growth and experience in practice are requisite for a thorough comprehension of the Science of Mind-healing. Some individuals realize truth more readily than others, but any student, who remains true to the divine rules of spiritual Science and becomes one with the spirit of Christ, can demonstrate Science, overcome error, heal the sick, and add continually to their supply of spiritual understanding, power, enlightenment, and success.

John 7: 40-46

40 On hearing [Jesus’] words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”

41 Others said, “He is the Messiah.”

Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? 42 Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?” 43 Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. 44 Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.

45 Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?” 46 “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Eloquence re-echoes the tones of Truth and Love. It is due to inspiration rather than erudition and shows the possibilities derived from divine Mind. Sometimes, eloquence is determined to be a gift from departed spirits, but what is the medium capable of knowing or saying when the spirit is absent? This question leads to the answer that channeled eloquence involves beliefs that can be undone. The medium first believes they are ignorant and can’t speak, yet that belief is let loose and the medium then believes a departed spirit possesses and is speaking through them only for that belief to fall flat when the departed spirit leaves.

The speaker then says, “I am uneducated and incapable of eloquent words.” Instances such as these reaffirm the Scriptural word concerning a person, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”[1] If a person believes that they cannot be a public speaker without study or without an outside influence, the body responds to this attitude and the tongue is tied.

Mind is not necessarily dependent on the education process. Mind possesses of itself all eloquence, beauty, and poetry. Mind has the power to express prose. Spirit, God, is heard when the human mind’s noise is silent. We are all capable of more than we do. The action of Soul confers the freedom that explains excellent impromptu speeches, admirable movie scripts, or meaningful texts.

John 14: 23-24

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Mind produces all action.

Divine Mind is our Soul and gives us unending dominion to image forth good.

bible study imageSubject: Desire

Desire is multifaceted. Many layered. We can have good desires or bad desires.

Because many of us don’t know what good or bad desires are, economists, scientists, religionists, and psychologists have analyzed and theorized desire.

From the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy website at https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/desire/ we read, “To desire is to be in a particular state of mind. It is a state of mind familiar to everyone who has ever wanted to drink water or desired to know what has happened to an old friend, but its familiarity does not make it easy to give a theory of desire…

“Understanding desires requires at least two things: first, to have a theory of desire itself, and second, to have some familiarity with the varieties of desires that there are. Once acquired, an understanding of desire can illuminate a number of controversies surrounding desire.”

Six theories of desire were given: action-based, pleasure-based, good-based, attention-based, learning-based, and holistic.

Thing is: this informative study was kind of laborious because desire was scrutinized.

A Bible verse came to my mind.

Please read from you Bible, Ecclesiastes 1:8

Basically, human knowledge can be overwhelming, undesirable. We can however understand a desire that comes from something greater than human knowledge or biology.

This desire that comes from something greater, let’s call it divine Mind, is free and gives us the freedom to break away from confusion or negative desires.

Even the desire to hurt oneself can be troubling. A thread was found at Anxiety Community website that shows caring responses regarding hurting oneself.

https://www.anxietycommunity.com/index.php?threads/the-desire-to-hurt-yourself.826/

“Azelma posted: I know it’s wrong and no one should ever do it for any reason, but I just get this feeling that I must punish myself. It somehow makes me feel better, transforming the mental pain into a physical form that’s easier to concentrate on. Or something, I don’t know. I was just wondering if there are any others like me and how you guys deal with it.

“Alex posted: Self-harming is a very delicate topic and very hard to explain to people who have never experienced it. It can happen not just to ‘punish’ yourself, but also to take away that inner pain that is invisible and you don’t know how else to deal with. Often it’s subconscious too and I recall talking to my brother once and I was ‘hurting’ myself and he told me to stop, but I didn’t even know I was doing it at the time as it had become a habit. When it occurs out of habit, you don’t always notice the action or pain.

“Happy Kid posted: One therapist helped me make a safety plan, and that helps with the difficult times. It’s good to have something like that in place, including people you can call or text.”

The advice given to Azelma was helpful, however sometimes we humans need greater examples of freedom. This is where God can help. Or the examples of prophets or Christ Jesus.

Please read in you Bible I John 2.

Now, desire is also associated with economics and business.

T.J. Cook, Executive Director at ABQid in New Mexico, spoke on TEDx, about how to go from desire to discipline, with innovation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_pHGbL5138

Cook mentioned the importance of creating space for innovation, rather than trying to dictate it. He spoke of creating a culture of innovation in the workplace, and gave three steps that can be taken:

  1. Drawing board day, where new ideas are brought up, but not related to client’s projects.
  2. Lab day, where those ideas are implemented into prototypes.
  3. Show and Tell day, demonstrating new prototypes.

Desires become un-suppressed through innovation. Desires from God come with satisfaction.

From 21st Century Science and Health, 6th edition

Our desires and aspirations ache to be fulfilled and we only feel rewarded when we stop limiting infinite Mind to finite resources. Infinite Mind can’t lose its character as inexhaustible Love, eternal Life, omnipotent Truth.

It is easier to desire Truth than it is to stop our dead end thinking and habits. Human beings may seek the understanding of divine Science, but they will not be able to profit from Christian Science without applying the spiritual facts in their daily life. This endeavor consists of forsaking error of every kind and possessing no other consciousness but good.

When we feel the loss of human peace, the desire for spiritual joy gets stronger. This desire for heavenly good comes even before we discover what belongs to wisdom and Love. The loss of earthly hopes and pleasures brightens the spiritual path. Pain in the body informs us that pleasure in the body is mortal, compelling us to discover spiritual joy.

Unspoken thoughts are not unknown to divine Mind. Prayer is desire. No loss can come from trusting God to form and exalt our desires before they are put into words and action.

The prayer that reforms and heals is an absolute faith that all things good are made possible by God. This type of prayer includes spiritual understanding and unselfish love. Speaking from experience, God has given us the tools of humility, meditation, awareness, and action, to attain improved spirituality and health.

What is the intent of prayer? Do we meditate to improve ourselves or improve humanity and the world? Do we enlighten God? Do we pray so other people can hear us? Is prayer beneficial? Yes, our hunger for righteousness[1] is blessed by our heavenly Parent. The desire for spirituality does not return to us void.

God’s work is done. Prayer doesn’t motivate God to do what has already been done. The Infinite can do nothing less than give all goodness since God is absolute good, wisdom, and Love—the all-knowing Mind. God’s manifestation doesn’t appear simply on the ground of lip-service; however, modest fervent affirmations of God’s presence can kick-start prayer.

Prayer can be dangerous if it tempts us to voice desires that aren’t real or to assume we are more spiritual than we really are. We become involuntary hypocrites when we use prayer to console ourselves without making genuine efforts to break out of illusory mindsets.

Meditation can’t change God’s law, but it can bring us into sync with immortal being. Prayer is not the mere habit of trying to persuade the divine Mind, as we would try to persuade a human being. Methods of prayer that perpetually try to humanize God are sad mistakes—errors that impede spiritual growth. As a first step, we can ask God to deliver us, but by taking more steps, and by demonstrating spiritual goodness, we can reach the living Truth.

God is Love. Can we ask the Infinite to be more? Love is intelligence, Mind. So, what could we possibly tell the all-knowing infinite Mind?

The effective prayer is a fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, humility, love, and good deeds. To keep the commandments of our teacher Christ Jesus and follow his example, is our proper debt and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude. Jesus said: “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”[2]

Love’s discipline is nourishing. As Love corrects us we advance toward justice, peace, and purity, which are the milestones of Science.

Spiritual and omnipotent Mind lifts humanity above itself into purer desires, even into spiritual power and good-will to humankind.

Golden text: Isaiah 45:13*

I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set my exiles free, not for price or reward,” says the Lord of hosts.

Haggai 1: 1-9, 14-15*

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” Then the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the Lord. You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.

14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God.

From 21st Century Science and Health**

The present new, yet old, reform in religious faith will patiently and wisely teach us not to give in to sectarian bitterness when it flows inward.

The divine Science of the Scriptures, seen from Genesis to Revelation, can’t be totally obscured even with all the odds against it. We’ve had Church committees vote to decide what should or shouldn’t be considered Holy Writ. Mistakes were made in the ancient translations and today, with the many thousand different versions of the Testaments, misinterpretations occur. However, the prophets’ healing work can’t be annulled or lost, and Jesus’ demonstration is intact, confirming that “the stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.”[1]

Atheism, pantheism, theosophy, and agnosticism are opposed to divine Science, as they are to ordinary religion, however, a person who identifies with those belief systems can still be healed by Science. The moral condition of such a person demands the remedy of Truth more than is needed in most cases; and Science is more than usually effectual in the treatment of moral weaknesses.

Haggai 2: 13-19

13 Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.” 14 Then Haggai answered and said, “So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the Lord, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean. 15 Now then, consider from this day onward. Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord, 16 how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty. 17 I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and with mildew and with hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord. 18 Consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, consider: 19 Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

Religious and medical systems treat physical pains and pleasures as if they are normal, but Jesus rebuked the suffering from any such cause or effect. The epoch approaches when true religion will be built on the understanding of the truth of being. However, people are slow to understand truth because they are obsessed with fashion, pride, bodies, and opinions. The fixation of materiality makes us weary and old because it goes against our higher nature. At some point, we will break through the fleeting and false and learn how Spirit, the great architect, has created men and women in Science.

Envy buries trust and love. Mistrust is a rotten apple in a relationship. Build a confidence in the commitment and responsibility that comes with a union. Don’t rush into a relationship teetering on infatuation or fear. Be aware of how your promises to another will influence your own growth and other people’s lives.

It is constructive for physicians, therapists, and practitioners to know and act on the truth that Mind is existent. Healers should not take the position that matter is the only cause.

Acts 15: 1-3, 12-18

But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers.

12 And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. 13 After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. 14 Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,

16 “‘After this I will return,
and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen;
I will rebuild its ruins,
and I will restore it,
17 that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord,
and all the Gentiles who are called by my name,
says the Lord, who makes these things 18 known from of old.’

Romans 2: 28-29

28 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. 29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

From 21st Century Science and Health

If religious people accept church salaries and build churches, yet turn away the poor and stranger, they are shutting the door on progress.

There is no hypocrisy in Science. Principle is imperative. You can’t mock it by human will. Science is a divine demand, not human. Always right, its divine Principle never repents, but maintains the claims of Truth by quenching error. Divine mercy pardons a mistake when the error is destroyed. If people understood the blessedness of their real spiritual source, they would struggle to return to it and be at peace. However, the more entrenched human mind is in error, the more intense its resistance to spirituality, until error yields to Truth.

Jude 1:17-23

But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

From 21st Century Science and Health

There is a large class of thinkers whose excessive prejudice and conceit twist every fact to suit themselves. Their creed teaches belief in a mysterious, supernatural God, and a natural, all-powerful devil. Another class, still more unfortunate, are so depraved that they appear to be innocent. They repeat empty talk while looking you placidly in the face, and they never fail to stab their benefactor in the back. A third class of thinkers build with steel beams. They are honest, generous, noble, and are therefore open to the approach and recognition of Truth. Teaching Christian Science to this mindset is not a chore. Pure thought does not incline longingly to error, whine over the demands of Truth, nor play the traitor for place and power.

Jesus taught action, not merely in the name of Truth, but in the nature—the demonstration of Truth, as must be the case in the cycles of divine light.

Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct the human mortal convictions by spiritual understanding and Spirit will form you anew. You will never fear again except to offend God, and you will never believe that hormones, cells, heart, the central nervous system, or any portion of the body can destroy you.

If you want your colon, uterus, or lungs to stay healthy, with excellent capacity, be always ready with a mental protest against an unhealthy belief. Dismiss all notions about inflammation, inherited disease, weak lungs, or suffering, arising from any circumstance, and you will find that human mind, when instructed by Truth, allows the body to be guided into health by means of divine power.

Holy Spirit. Holy Ghost; divine Science; the development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love; that which interprets divine Mind.

Humility, prayer, awareness, and action are God’s gracious means for the spiritualization and health of humankind.

Golden text: Matthew 12: 11-12*

[Jesus] said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Deuteronomy 5:1, 12-15

And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rules that I speak in your hearing today, and you shall learn them and be careful to do them.

12 “‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

II Corinthians 3: 1-6

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you? You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

From 21st Century Science and Health**

Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites understanding to eternal harmony. The calm and enlightened thought, or spiritual perception, is at peace. Thus the dawn of ideas goes on, forming each successive stage of progress.

John 5: 1-10

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.

Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

The healing influence of Spirit is discerned by spiritual sense. Creeds, doctrines, and human hypotheses do not express Christian Science; much less can they demonstrate it.

Every law of physics or the body, supposed to govern people, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God. Unaware of our God-given rights, we allow unjust decisions and make excuses for imperfection. Our education system is biased, expounding homogeny and marketing a resignation to poor choices. Become aware metaphysically. Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is developing in the system, than you are willing to suffer giving into a sinful temptation on the ground that sin has its necessities.

The systems of human philosophies, doctrines, and medicines are more or less infected with the thinking that matter has a life-code of its own—genes—but this thinking contradicts both revelation and right reasoning. Why would matter want a life with no mind? Logical and scientific conclusions are reached only through the knowledge that there are not two bases of being, matter and mind, but one alone—Mind.

When overstepping some supposed law, you say that there is danger. This fear is the danger and induces the physical effects. We cannot in reality suffer from breaking anything except a moral or spiritual law. The supposed laws of mortal thinking are destroyed by the understanding that the law of Soul is immortal, and that human mind cannot legislate the times, periods, and types of disease with which humans die. God is the lawmaker, but God is not the author of ruthless rules. In infinite Life and Love there is no sickness, no twisted good, no death, and Scriptures declare that in the infinite God “we live and move and have our being.”[1]

John 5: 11-17

But [the healed man] answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. 16 And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

Evil is struggling against the advancing spiritual era. The world may lack spirituality, and people may not be able to keep a promise or make a home happy, but human minds are demanding spiritual understanding and a reformed attitude.

Matthew 12: 1-8

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

Truth and error seem to be in conflict. Remember though, the contention is only the mental conflict between the evidence of the spiritual perceptions and the testimony of the human imprints. Through faith in, and the understanding of divine Love, the battle between Spirit and flesh will settle all questions.

Superstition and understanding can never unite. When the final physical and moral effects of divine Science are fully understood, the conflict between truth and error, understanding and belief, Science and material sense, will cease, and spiritual harmony will prevail. This harmony was predicted by the prophets and introduced by Jesus. The lightning and thunderbolts of error burst and flash, but the clouds will clear and the tumult will die away in the distance. Then the raindrops of divinity refresh the earth. As St. Paul says: “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God [of Spirit].”[2]

Hebrews 4: 9-12

So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

From 21st Century Science and Health

There is neither place nor opportunity in Science for error of any sort. Every day makes its demands upon us for better proofs rather than verbal claims of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress and progress is the law of God whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfill.

Save yourself as Jesus saved. Strive. Advance spiritually. Constantly turn away from the objects of the human mind, and look toward the imperishable things of Spirit. If honest, you will be in earnest from the start, and joyfully gain a little each day in the right direction. If persistent, you will make the transition from limited substance to the substantial unlimited.

Every day on earth we must improve, discover, and utilize our spiritual faculties.

Not materially, but spiritually we know God as divine Mind, as Life, Truth, and Love. We become more respectful and caring as we get to know the divine nature better and love Soul understandingly. The struggle over physicality will be replaced by a rejoicing in the affluence of our God.

“Meaning of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a means by which our living pattern imitates God’s (Ex. 20:3-11). Work is followed by rest. The idea is expressed by the Hebrew word for Sabbath, which means ‘cessation.’

“Sabbath rest is also a time for God’s people to think about and enjoy what God ahs accomplished.”

Golden text: Psalms 16:11*

You [God] make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

II Kings 6: 24-33

Afterward Ben-hadad king of Syria mustered his entire army and went up and besieged Samaria. 25 And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver. 26 Now as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!” 27 And he said, “If the Lord will not help you, how shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the winepress?” 28 And the king asked her, “What is your trouble?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’ 29 So we boiled my son and ate him. And on the next day I said to her, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him.’ But she has hidden her son.” 30 When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes—now he was passing by on the wall—and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth beneath on his body— 31 and he said, “May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today.”

32 Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Now the king had dispatched a man from his presence, but before the messenger arrived Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent to take off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold the door fast against him. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?” 33 And while he was still speaking with them, the messenger came down to him and said, “This trouble is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?”

II Kings 7: 1-2

But Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.” Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

From 21st Century Science and Health**

From human mind comes the reproduction of the species—first the belief of inanimate (DNA), and then of animate (conscious) matter. According to human thought, embryonic human mind begins in the central nervous system and develops into a brain, always keeping in line with matter, which is the subjective condition of human mind.

Next, we have the formation of an emerging human mind, defined as a human being. All this while flesh is ignorant of its self and of what it is producing. Why do we go along with the theory that an unconscious network of nerve cells evolves and produce both body and mind? The mortal’s mind, and certainly the immortal Mind, is not found in brain or elsewhere in matter or in human beings.

This genotypic and physiological mortal humanity in turn fills itself with thoughts of pain and pleasure, life and death. The belief of humanized molecules also arranges itself into five so-called senses, which presently measure mind and body by the number of synapses in the brain, and mass weight.

Human birth, growth, maturity, and decay are as the grass springing from the soil with beautiful green blades, afterward to wither and return to its native nothingness.

John 6: 35-52

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— 46 not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

From 21st Century Science and Health

The self-styled human soul or spirit is not the divine infinite Spirit. In other words, the physiological and genetic view of spirit is diametrically opposed to Spirit—the flesh warring against Love. These mortal limited views must yield to the infinite Spirit, named God.

The great truth in the Science of being, that our spirituality was, is, and ever shall be perfect, is indisputable. Our true self is the image, reflection, of God. God’s children are not inverted or subverted, but upright and Godlike.

Whoever is incompetent to explain Soul is wise not to undertake the explanation of body. Life is, always has been, and ever will be independent of matter/energy. Life is spiritual good, not formed physically, but metaphysically. Our real life is the idea of spiritual good and is not liable to decay and dust. The Psalmist said: “You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet.”[1]

This indisputable Principle points to the revelation of Immanuel, “God with us,”[2] the sovereign ever-presence, delivering the children of human beings from every ill “that flesh is heir to.”[3] Through divine Science, religion and medicine are inspired with a more God-like nature and essence. Science gives new strength to faith and understanding, and thoughts intelligently acquaint themselves with God.

The infinite never began and it will never end. Mind and its formations can never be annihilated. God’s child is not on a roller coaster, reeling between evil and good, joy and sorrow, sickness and health, life and death. Life and its faculties are not measured by calendars. The perfect and spiritual are the eternal likeness of their Maker.

Matthew 10: 34-39

[Jesus said,] 34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Every quality and condition of mortality is swallowed up in spirituality. Mortals are the opposite of immortals in origin, in existence, and in their relation to God.

Socrates[4] did not fear his death sentence by hemlock poison, because he understood the superiority and immortality of good. The faith of his philosophy was audacious in the face of physical timidity. Having pursued spirituality, Socrates recognized the immortality of man and woman. Although Socrates was worthy of respect, the ignorance and malice of that time period killed him because of his faith in Soul and his indifference to the body.

Who will say that God’s children are alive today, but may be dead tomorrow? What has touched Life, God, to such strange issues? Here theories cease, and Science unveils the mystery and solves the problem of man and woman. Error strikes the heel of truth, but cannot kill truth. Truth crushes the head[5] of error—destroys error. Spirituality lays open siege to materialism. On which side are we fighting?

The understanding that the Ego, I AM, is Mind, and that there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to destroy the errors of human sense and to supply the truth of spiritual sense. This understanding makes the body harmonious; it makes the nerves, bones, brain, etc., servants, instead of masters. If humanity is governed by the law of divine Mind, the body is obedient to everlasting Life and Truth and Love.

The divine law of Life and Love unfolds the demonstrable facts that matter (human mind) possesses neither sensation nor life; that human experiences show the falsity of all temporal things; and that spiritual desires establish the truth that the only sufferer is human mind. The divine Mind can’t suffer.

When we fully understand our relation to the Divine, we can have no other Mind—no other Love, wisdom, or Truth. In the divine relationship, there is no other sense of Life and no consciousness of the existence of matter or error.

Golden text: Hebrews 8: 1-2*

Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.

Micah 1:1

The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Micah 3: 1-3, 9-12

And [Micah] said:
Hear, you heads of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel!
Is it not for you to know justice?—
you who hate the good and love the evil,
who tear the skin from off my people
and their flesh from off their bones,
who eat the flesh of my people,
and flay their skin from off them,
and break their bones in pieces
and chop them up like meat in a pot,
like flesh in a cauldron.

9Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel,
who detest justice
and make crooked all that is straight,
10 who build Zion with blood
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11 Its heads give judgment for a bribe;

its prophets practice divination for money;
yet they lean on the Lord and say,
“Is not the Lord in the midst of us?
No disaster shall come upon us.”
12 Therefore because of you
Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.

Only Science can explain the incredible good and evil elements that keep surfacing. Human beings must find protection in Truth in order to escape the errors of today. Nothing is more antagonistic to divine Science than a blind belief without understanding, for such a belief hides Truth and builds on error.

Divine Science doesn’t act through blind belief. Science doesn’t act through human understanding.

Temporal methods of healing generate antagonism. For example, we take one pill to relieve a problem, but the pill creates another problem for which we need surgery, and then complications come about after the surgery for which we need another pill. The warfare between Spirit and the flesh goes on. Antibodies kill good bacteria along with the bad. Viruses become immune to antibiotics. Drugs are addictive. These rivalries cause the human mind to weaken its own assumed power.

Micah 5: 1-5

Now muster your troops, O daughter of troops;
siege is laid against us;
with a rod they strike the judge of Israel
on the cheek.
2] But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.
Therefore he shall give them up until the time
when she who is in labor has given birth;
then the rest of his brothers shall return
to the people of Israel.
And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great
to the ends of the earth.
And he shall be their peace.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Every human being at some point, here or hereafter, must battle with and overcome the mortal belief in a power opposed to God.

Being is holiness, harmony, immortality. It is already proved that knowledge of this, even in a small degree, will improve the physical and moral standard of human beings, will increase longevity, will purify and elevate character. Progress will finally destroy all error and bring immortality to light. Spiritual progress is truthful. New thoughts are constantly breaking human laws. The two contradictory theories—that human mind is something, or that all is Mind—will fight each other until one is acknowledged to be the victor. Calling the people to arms, Winston Churchill said: ”Our task is not only to win the battle—but to win the war.”[1] Science says: All is Mind and Mind’s idea. You must fight it out to the end. Matter, human mind, is of no help in this war.

The would-be healer is obligated not to bring hypocrisy, stupidity, inhumanity, or bad habits into the patient’s environment. If these traits were present, the environment would be converted into a “den of robbers.”[2] The un-Christ-like practitioner does not give to mind or body the joy and strength of Truth. Vanity and negativity desecrate the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the patient’s spiritual power to resuscitate themselves is damaged. The poor suffering heart needs its spiritual nutriment, such as peace, patience in distress, and a priceless sense of the dear Father-Mother’s loving-kindness.

Mark 5: 24-34

And a great crowd followed [Jesus] and thronged about him. 25 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29 And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

Do not let your thought become a captive audience to the demands of sin or sickness. Turn away from that which falsely pressures us, with the enduring conviction that those pressures are illegitimate. God is no more the author of sickness than of sin. You have no law of God to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.

Science is compelling the world to battle over the subject of divine Mind and its demonstration, which heals the sick, destroys error and reveals the universal harmony. To the natural students of Christian Science, to the ancient worthies, and to Christ Jesus, God certainly revealed the spirit of divine Science, if not the absolute letter.

Matthew 6: 7-13

[And Jesus said,] “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the petition of human mind, alias matter, lobbying against the supremacy of Spirit. Exclude the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when you are delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, “You are well!”[3]

God is not the creator of an evil mind. Indeed, evil is not Mind. We must learn that evil is the awful deception and unreality of existence. Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the so-called laws of matter primary and the law of Spirit secondary. Without this lesson, we lose sight of the perfect Source, or the divine Principle of spiritual selfhood.

Where does the cacophony of life come from? Disorder comes when matter is considered to be a cause. Matter is not a cause or effect. Divine Mind is the only cause or Principle of existence. Your thought process, or mental treatment must begin with divine Mind, not the brain, not human mind, not physical form.
