Have you not read what God said to you,‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. 20 A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one.
21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
23 Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

If seed is necessary to produce wheat, and wheat to produce flour, or an animal is necessary to produce meat, how then can we account for their initial origin? How were the loaves and fishes multiplied without flour or egg from which bread or fish could come?
The earth’s orbit and the imaginary line called the equator are not substance. The earth’s motion and position are sustained by Mind alone. Empower yourself with the thought that substance is purely mental, and the movements and transitions possible for the human mind will be found equally possible for the body. Being is alive. Death is obsolete, although some insist that death is the necessary prelude to immortality.
If Christendom resists my application of the word Science to Christianity or questions my use of the word Science, I will not therefore lose faith in Christianity, nor will Christianity lose its hold on me. If God, the All-in-all, be the creator of the spiritual universe, including individuals, then everything entitled to a classification as truth or Science, must be comprised in a knowledge or understanding of God. There can be nothing beyond illimitable divinity.
The terms divine Science, spiritual Science, metaphysical Science, the Science of Truth and Love, Christian Science, or Science alone, are employed interchangeably according to the requirements of the context. These synonymous terms stand for everything relating to God, the infinite, supreme, eternal Mind. It may be said, however, that the term Christian Science relates especially to Science as applied to humanity. Divine Science reveals God, not as the author of sin, sickness, and death, but as Principle, Supreme Being, Mind, exempt from all evil. It teaches that materialism or limitation is the falsity, not the fact, of existence. Nerves, brain, stomach, lungs, and so forth, have—as matter—no intelligence, life, or sensation.
Science doesn’t proceed from that which is relative and uncertain, as all truth proceeds from the divine Mind. Matter is not a lawgiver. Truth is not a law of matter and is not mortal. Spiritual Science comes from divine Mind and is the only means of rightly interpreting God, Spirit, substance. Science has a Godlike, not humanlike, origin. It is a divine affirmation, the Counselor guiding “into all truth.”
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”

Abraham. Perseverance; faith in the divine Life and in the eternal Principle of being.
Whatever resembles an idea governed by Principle, furnishes food for thought. Through astronomy, art, natural history, chemistry, music, and mathematics, thought passes naturally from effect back to cause.
Academics of the right sort are requisite. Observation, invention, study, and original thought are expansive. They should promote the advancement of human mind out of itself to a consciousness that escapes mortality and finds peace.
We aren’t struggling to rise from an imperfect origin to a perfect Spirit.
The advent of Jesus of Nazareth marked the first century of the Christian era, but Christ-spirit is without beginning of years or end of days. Throughout all generations both before and after the Christian era, the Christ, as the divine idea—the reflection of God—has come with some degree of power and grace to all prepared to receive the Messiah, or Truth. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of Christ, which baptized these insightful people in the nature or essence of Love. The divine image, idea, or Christ was, is, and ever will be inseparable from the divine Principle, Truth. Jesus referred to this unity of his spiritual identity as so: “Before Abraham was born, I am!” “I and the Father are one;” “The Father is greater than I.” The one Spirit includes all identities.
Jesus recognized Spirit, God, as the only source and origin of all.
Jesus taught and showed us Life’s power to dissolve anything that opposes unlimited Truth. He said, “Every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down.”
John [the Baptist] said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

Mortals have an imperfect understanding of spiritual being and its infinite range of thought. Eternal Life belongs to spiritual being. Never born and never dying, it is impossible for people under the government of God in eternal Science, to fall from their immortal status.
Don’t be induced to believe you are doing good when really you are producing evil, injuring others, and deforming goodness. People who think they are a semi-god will mis-create. In Bible language: “I cannot be good as I desire to be, and I do wrong against my wishes.”
There can be but one creator, who has created all. Whatever seems to be a new creation is only the discovery of some distant idea of Truth; or else it is a self-division of mortal thought. The human mind is not an originator, but is a mime, an ape, attempting to mimic the divine infinite.
The multiplication of a human sense of persons and things is neither creation nor revelation. A temporal thought, like an atom of dust thrown into the face of spiritual immensity, is dense blindness instead of the scientific eternal consciousness of creation.
Through spiritual perception we can discern the heart of divinity and thereby begin to understand the generic terms person or individual. Our spirituality is not absorbed in God, and God’s person doesn’t become isolated or trapped in a vacuum. Our individuality goes on and on reflecting Life eternal. We each represent the totality of infinite Mind’s substance.
In divine Science, an individual is the true image of God. The divine nature was genuinely personified by Christ Jesus who shed light on this powerful concept of God. He shifted the people’s thought to experience something better than what they had been trained to think was right and normal. Jesus served to remove the stereotypical view of people as sinners, destined to be sick and dying. The Christ-like understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea―complete God and complete person―as the basis of thought and demonstration.
If person was once complete or perfect, but then lost his/her perfection, then the image of God was never known. The lost image is no image.
In spiritual knowledge, we are the offspring of Spirit, Mind. The beautiful, whole, and pure constitute our ancestry. Our origin is not like that of mortals, programmed to pass through human stages prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is our primordial and ultimate source of being. God is our Father-Mother, and Life is the law of our being.

The Lord’s Prayer with a spiritual interpretation (in italics) from 21st Century Science and Health:
Our Father in heaven,
Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,
Hallowed be Your name,
One sacred nature,
Your kingdom come,
Your government is come; You are ever-present,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Enable us to know—as in heaven, so on earth—God is omnipotent, supreme.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Give us grace for today; feed the famished intentions.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And Love is reflected in love.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
And God does not lead us into temptation, but delivers us from sin, disease, and death.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All.
