Subject: Spiritual Unity
Golden text: Ephesians 1:7-10, NKJV copyright Thomas Nelson
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
So Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the East. 2 And he looked, and saw a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone was on the well’s mouth. 3 Now all the flocks would be gathered there; and they would roll the stone from the well’s mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well’s mouth.
4 And Jacob said to them, “My brethren, where are you from?”
And they said, “We are from Haran.”
5 Then he said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?”
And they said, “We know him.”
6 So he said to them, “Is he well?”
And they said, “He is well. And look, his daughter Rachel is coming with the sheep.”
7 Then he said, “Look, it is still high day; it is not time for the cattle to be gathered together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
8 But they said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they have rolled the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.”

Water symbolizes the elements of Mind, such as beauty and grace. Spirit appropriately feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual revelation, thus tenderly expressing the motherhood and fatherhood of God. Spirit names and blesses all. Without natures particularly defined, objects and subjects would be obscure and creation would be full of nameless offspring—wanderers from the parent Mind, strangers in a tangled wilderness.
Human thinking changes indefinitely, so turn to divine Science and spiritual understanding for prayers.
The belief that life can be in material so-called substance or that we spring from dust or DNA, is the result of mortal error which Truth destroys by fulfilling the spiritual law of being, in which we are whole, even as “your heavenly Father is perfect.” Be aware: if thought yields to unspiritual powers, it can’t outline on the body its own beautiful images, but effaces them and delineates foreign agents called disease and sin.
The gods of mythology controlled the weather and war as much as nerves control sensation, or muscles measure strength. To say that strength is in matter is like saying that the power is in the lever. The notion of measurable divisible intelligence is without foundation in fact, and you can have no faith in falsehood when you have learned falsehood’s true nature
Does Deity help one worshipper but not another, even if they offer the same measure of prayer? In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may profit from God, as “ready to help when we need him.” Love is impartial and universal in its spiritualization and generosity. The sick can recover when they pray, or are prayed for. The infinite Source calls out, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters.”
Question. Do atoms, in the forms of organs, chemicals, or the five senses, constitute person?
Answer. Divine Science sustains with immortal proof, the impossibility of atoms having consciousness, and defines the sensory systems or biological entities as human beliefs or inventions, none of which can come from God. Corporeal senses can’t take cognizance of spiritual reality and immortality. Nerves have no more sensation then the power we give them. If we were humanly programmed to believe it, we would believe the veins in a plant could feel stimuli like nerves. Mind alone possesses all sensation, perception, and interpretation. Therefore, mental perception or awareness is not at the mercy of physical organization and decay—otherwise bacteria could undo us. If it were possible for our real senses to be injured, Soul could reproduce them in all their perfection, but they cannot be disturbed or destroyed, since they exist in immortal Mind, not in matter.
The less mind manifest in matter the better. When the unthinking salamander loses its limb, the limb grows back. If the Science of Life were understood, it would be found that the senses of Mind are never lost and that human mind has no sensation, then the human limb would be replaced as readily as the salamander’s limb—not with an artificial limb, but with the genuine one. Any hypothesis that assumes life is in human mind is an educated belief. Beliefs, in their infancy are like an infant, not able to guide the hand to the mouth. As spiritual consciousness develops, belief goes out and yields to the reality of everlasting Life.
Learn from experience. Learn virtue, respect, self-control, patience, and a reliable happiness that comes from spiritual growth. May Christ, Truth, be present at every bridal altar, to turn the water into wine and inspire your life with the vision of a serene and immortal existence.
Spiritual comfort blesses the human family, feeds the unsatisfied, and gives living water to the thirsty.
Some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”
6 Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter. 7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”

Some worshipper’s center thought on the material in an attempt to worship the spiritual. To these worshippers, the human doctrines, physical books, rituals, and worldly ways and means are substance, and Spirit is insubstantial. But, it is impossible to worship Spirit from the incompatible standpoints of human reverences and references. The people might appeal to their personal concepts or false gods, but their prayer brings no proof that it was heard. We need to sufficiently understand God to demonstrate Spirit’s power to heal—to make harmony the reality and disorder the unreality.
Consciousness in the likeness of Truth is inevitably immortal. The grass withers and the flower fades, however, they reappear. Erase the figures which express numbers, silence the tones of music, give human persons to bacteria, and yet the producing, governing divine Principle lives on, in the case of people as truly as in the case of numbers and music. All this is true despite the laws of human mind which define people as mortal. Though the problematic definitions, resulting from limited perspectives, hide the harmony of Science, they can’t destroy the divine Principle of Science. In Science, our indestructibility depends upon God, good, and follows as a necessary consequence of the immortality of good.
We think of an absent friend as easily as we do a present friend. It is just as easy to read distant thoughts as near. We read the thoughts of the deceased through their writings. Chaucer wrote centuries ago, yet we still read his thought in his verse. What is study of the classics, but the discernment of the minds, even the minds of Homer, and Virgil, of whose personal existence we may be in doubt? But, there is no real communication.
If spiritual life has been won by the departed, they can’t return to a material existence because different states of consciousness are involved. Consider two people sleeping. They are wandering in different mazes of consciousness and unable to communicate. Not even an awake person can communicate with a sleeping person.
The conscious state of a departed friend is different from those still here on earth. Different mental realms prevent communication. The mental states are so unlike that intercommunication is as impossible as it would be between a flea and a human being.
Divine Science-practice requires human mind to yield to and unite with the divine consciousness moving heavenward.
Human beings will be less mortal when they learn that matter never sustained existence and can never destroy God, who is our Life. When this is understood, humanity will be more spiritual and know that real substance can’t become malignant, since Spirit, Life, is All-in-all. What if the belief is multiple sclerosis? God is more to an individual than the individual’s belief, and the less we acknowledge human mind and its laws, the more spirituality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in limited perceptions is conquered. Correct human mortal convictions by spiritual understanding and Spirit will form you anew. You will never fear again except to offend God, and you will never believe that hormones, cells, the heart, central nervous system, or any portion of the body can destroy you.
If you want your colon, uterus, lymphatic system, or lungs to stay healthy, with excellent capacity, be always ready mentally to protest against unhealthy beliefs. Dismiss all notions about tumors, inherited diseases, weak lungs, or suffering, arising from any circumstance. You will find that human mind, when instructed by Truth, allows the body to be guided into health by means of divine power.
Divine Science, understood, coincides with the Scriptures and sustains logically and demonstratively every point it presents, otherwise it would not be Science and could not present results. Mind-science is not made up of paradoxical clichés or of the inventions of those who ridicule God. Science presents the calm and clear verdict of Truth against error, voiced and illustrated by the prophets, by Jesus, and by his apostles, as recorded in Scriptures.
Millions of unprejudiced minds are waiting and looking for rest and drink. They are simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers thirsty in the desert. Give them a cup of cold water with Christ’s attitude and never fear the consequences. But watch out, because the old dragon may cause a torrential uproar to drown the Christ-idea. However, the dragon can’t destroy “an instrument through which only truth can speak.” The truth of being will be understood. The earth will help. People who are ready for the blessing will give you thanks. The river will be calmed, and Christ will command the wave.
