Golden text: Proverb 25: 13, New International Version, copyright Biblica
Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.
Matthew 10:1, 24-26
Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

Spirit blesses, but we cannot “tell where it comes from or where it is going.” By Spirit the sick are healed, the stressed are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science.
Learn that God can do all things for us in sickness as in health.
Admitting to our self that person is God’s own likeness sets us free to master the infinite idea.
Human beings do not comprehend mortal existence and are just as ignorant of the all-knowing Mind and creation of Spirit.
Physical sense creates its own forms of thought, and gives the forms imaginative titles before worshiping and fearing them. Often, the forms are attributed with abilities beyond themselves. Basically, the beliefs of the human mind commit self-robbery and self-enslavement, and then charge the result to another illusive personification named Satan.
The human mind always tells the body what to do. Quite often the body goes through a motion so often that after a while the movement appears to be involuntary. Human mind tells the heart valves to open and close as directly as it tells the hand to wave hello. Anatomy admits that human-will waves the hand, but it doesn’t see human mind directing the heart.
We say, “My hand did it.” What is this my but human mind, the cause of all mortal action. All voluntary and involuntary action of the mortal body is governed by mortal mind, not by chemicals or electricity. There is no involuntary action. The divine Mind includes all action and will, and in Science we are governed by this Mind. The human mind tries to classify action as voluntary and involuntary and suffers from the attempt.
If you take away the human mind, the temporal physical body loses all appearance of life or action and the human mind calls itself dead. However, the human mind still holds in belief a body, through which it acts and which appears to its self to live until the body is put off. Only as the mortal, false mind yields to God or spiritual Mind, is our identity found in the image of Love.
Failing to recover health through treatments based on physiology or gene therapy, the despairing invalid often drops them and as a last resort turns to God. The person would have resorted to Mind first if they had more faith in the divine Mind than in drugs, time, and hygiene.
By trusting matter to destroy its own disorder, health and harmony have been sacrificed. Temporal systems are barren of the vitality of spiritual power by which physical sense is made the servant of Science, and religion becomes Christ-like.
Medical systems grant more power to matter than Spirit, however, when Mind asserts its mastery, we are found harmonious and spiritual.
Thought must stay open to metaphysical ideas in science, theology, and medicine. Thought cannot obsess or fixate on lifestyles, symbols, or a favorite rule; otherwise people will lose touch with reason and develop a narrow and blurred view of reality—they will make mistakes, errors. Consider a successful math student. The student can’t focus on only the rule of addition when working out a problem that also involves subtraction or division. Fixations cause confusion, the penchant to guess, and a lack of mental improvement. We must be receptive to all of the principles in Science and they need to be learned and applied in life’s situations, otherwise error will be an unbroken head-wind.
Through divine Science, religion and medicine are inspired with a more God-like nature and essence. Science gives new strength to faith and understanding, and thoughts intelligently acquaint themselves with God.
Jesus cast out evil spirits, or false beliefs. He did his own work by the one Spirit. Jesus said: “My Father has worked [even] until now, [He has never ceased working; He is still working] and I, too, must be at [divine] work.” The Master never described disease, as far as can be learned from the Gospels, but he healed disease. The Apostle Paul encouraged people to have the Mind that was in Christ.
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written:
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.’”
12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. 14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. 15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

Do you “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”? This counsel includes much, even the surrender of all mortal perceptions, habits, and reverences. Loving God with all your heart is the Utopia of Christianity; it involves the Science of Life. The counsel of Love recognizes and respects only the divine control of Spirit, of which Soul is our master and human mindsets have no place.
The understanding that the Ego, I AM, is Mind, and that there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to destroy the errors of human sense and to supply the truth of spiritual sense. This understanding makes the body harmonious; it makes the nerves, bones, brain, etc., servants, instead of masters. If humanity is governed by the law of divine Mind, the body is obedient to everlasting Life and Truth and Love. The great mistake of human beings is to suppose that God’s image and likeness is both matter and Spirit, both good and evil.
If the decision were left to the physical senses, evil would appear to be the master of good and sickness the rule of existence. Health is not the exception, death is not the inevitable, and life is not pointless. Paul asked: “How can there be harmony between Christ and the devil?”
Don’t waste your years away by serving an unreal master telling you that the body governs you rather than Mind. You can break the bondage, however you must then press on with faith in God through an awful conflict, the Red Sea and the wilderness, as you trust Truth, the strong deliverer, to guide your thought into the land of divine Science. In the divine land, or state of consciousness, limitations are overcome and your rights are known and acknowledged.
Oppressive civil laws are disputed and human beings are taught their right to freedom. From this same standpoint, mental laws can be disputed. The self-sabotaging mortal laws must be denied and succeeded. The law of the divine Mind must end human repression, or human beings will continue to be unaware of their inalienable rights. People are prone to hopeless obsessions and anguish because public teachers permit an unawareness of divine power.
We can be masters of the body, dictate its features, and form and control it with Truth.
This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love can’t be deprived of its manifestation or object; that happiness can’t be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of happiness; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind; and that life can’t result in death. God’s unspoiled child—governed by its perfect Principle—is sinless and eternal.
Harmony is produced, controlled, and sustained by Principle, forever. Divine Principle is our Life. Our contentment is not at the disposal of physical sense. Truth is not contaminated by discord. Harmony in our being is as beautiful as in music, while discord is unnatural, unreal.
