Subject: Revelation

Golden text: Isaiah 33:2*

O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.

Revelation 15

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.

And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,
    O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
    O King of the nations!
Who will not fear, O Lord,
    and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
    All nations will come
    and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tent of witness in heaven was opened, and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

In spiritual history, it was Mind which saved the Israelites from belief in the plagues. It was Mind that caused water to flow from rock[1] and manna to fall from the sky[2] while in the wilderness. Miracles attended the successes of the Hebrews. The Israelites looked at the bronze serpent that Moses made and believed they were healed of venomous snake bites.[3] Even when in captivity among foreign nations, the divine Principle worked wonders for the people of God in the blazing furnace[4] and in kings’ palaces. But when they departed from the true idea their demoralization began.

Beliefs that engender a national theology or political religion are the antithesis of true Christianity. Narrow systems and theories concerning God, human beings, health, and a religious society, are restrictive.

It would be better to be exposed to every plague on earth than to endure the amassed effects of a guilty conscience. The persistent consciousness of wrongdoing tends to destroy the ability to do right. If sin is not regretted and is not lessening, then it is hurrying on to physical and moral doom.

Fidelity to the marriage vow is required to preserve collective well-being. Infidelity is “the pestilence that stalks in the darkness…the plague that destroys at midday.”[5] The instruction, “You shall not commit adultery,”[6] is no less imperative than, “You shall not murder.”[7]

Abstinence from decadent sexual activity leads to an advanced state of intellectual and cultural development in human society, marked by progress in the arts, science, and religion. Without integrity, there is no social stability and the Science of Life can’t be achieved.

Truth has a healing effect even when not fully understood.

Anatomy says thoughts can move the muscles—sometimes. Such noncommittal beliefs plague every material theory in which one statement contradicts another.

Think of this: for it can lift the sackcloth from your eyes and allow you to behold the soft-winged dove descending on you. The very circumstance, which your suffering sense thinks is horrible and distressing, Love can make you entertain “angels without knowing it.”[8] Then thought gently whispers: Come on! No more attention on narrow-minded conclusions; now, experience the true sense of Love. Observe the Lamb’s wife—Love wedded to its own spiritual idea. Then comes the marriage reception, for this revelation will destroy forever the physical plagues imposed on human beings by limited perceptions.

Luke 10:17-21

The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” 18 And [Jesus] said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.

Jesus’ example was all-inclusive; not only was his life’s work carried out to the end for himself, but his work also shows us how to work out our own deliverance. We must do what he did and what he taught us to do. His purpose in healing was not just to restore health but to demonstrate his divine Principle. He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did.

The perceptions and realities of mortal thought either die or give way to the spiritual discovery of completeness and eternity. Through many generations, human beliefs reach diviner conceptions and the immortal model of God’s revelation is finally seen as the only true conception of being.

Science not only reveals reasonable possibilities, but also prompts human beings to discover what God has already done. You must trust your ability to experience goodness and to bring out better and higher results. Don’t become a sluggard. Don’t fear failure, but overcome it.

As we stop thinking that life and intelligence are in human mind or matter, spiritual facts of being appear. The idea or intelligence of spiritual facts is in God. Spirit is reached through the understanding and demonstration of eternal Life and Truth and Love.

The systems of human philosophies, doctrines, and medicines are more or less infected with the thinking that matter has a life-code of its own, but this thinking contradicts both revelation and progressive reasoning. Logical and scientific conclusions are reached only through the knowledge that there are not two bases of being, matter and mind, but one alone—Mind.

Acts 15:12-18

And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. 13 After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. 14 Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,

16 “‘After this I will return,
and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen;
I will rebuild its ruins,
     and I will restore it,
17 that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord,
and all the Gentiles who are called by my name,
says the Lord, who makes these things 18 known from of old.’

We say people suffer from the effects of noise, heat, and fatigue, however, this is human creed, not the truth of being, for matter cannot suffer. Human mind alone suffers—not because a law of matter has been violated, but because a law of this mind has been disobeyed. I have demonstrated this as a rule of divine Science by destroying the delusion of suffering from what was termed a fatally broken physical law.

A woman, whom I cured of tuberculosis, always breathed with great difficulty when the wind was from the east. I sat silently by her side for a few moments. Her breath came gently. The inspirations were deep and natural. I then requested her to look at the weather-vane. She looked and saw that it pointed due east. The wind had not changed, but her thought of it had and so her difficulty in breathing was gone. The wind had not produced the difficulty. My metaphysical treatment changed the action of her thinking on the lungs and she never suffered again from east winds but was restored to health.

There are many self-help books on the market that assist us in yielding to a Higher Power, however “mind-cures,” or “mental medicines” that operate through human mind or the earth’s energy are as limited as conventional medicine. The treatments can’t break through their own barriers, although they try to mimic divine Science which is limitless. It’s similar to when Moses had Aaron throw his staff on the ground before Pharaoh, and the staff became a snake.  Imitating Aaron, Pharaoh’s cohorts threw their sticks down to become snakes, but Aaron’s snake swallowed the copies.[9] The system of divine Science is purely mental. We must embrace spiritual Mind with its power to cure. God, Love, Mind, is the healing factor. Christian Science rests on the conception of God as the only Life, substance, intelligence, and the only factor in the healing work.

Jesus cast out vice and healed the sick, not only without drugs, but also without hypnotism. The ethics and pathology of Christian Science do not include chemicals and external mind suggestions.

Mental practice on the human level may seem for a time to benefit the sick, but the recovery is not permanent. Methods that act on and through the human mind and its brain counterpart, are only manipulations of the accumulated human imprints and activities.

If a patient is under the influence of human mind, that influence is removed by emptying the mind of its false stimulus and reaction of will-power, and filling it with the divine energies of Truth.

Divine Science replaces human mortal thinking through the understanding of Spirit, and the thoroughness of this work determines health.
