Golden text: I John 1:9*
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Admitting to our self that person is God’s own likeness sets us free to master the infinite idea.
The less that is said of physical structure and laws, the higher will be the standard of living. The more that is thought and said about moral and spiritual law, the further human beings will be removed from imbecility or disease.
Fear is to be overcome, instead of cultivated. Fear makes us weepy, dishonest, touchy, stubborn, and egotistical.
We are told that certain foods make us healthy, but that is a mistake. Yesterday’s diet would not cure today’s indigestion. With rules of health in the head and the most digestible food in the stomach, there are still digestive problems. Unwell bodies will become healthy as individual opinions improve and human belief loses some portion of its error.
The doctor’s mind reaches that of the patient. Doctors should suppress their fears of disease, otherwise their beliefs will harm their patients even more than the chemotherapy, radiation, or morphine prescribed. The human mind has in belief more power to harm humankind than its substratum, matter. A patient hears the doctor’s verdict as a criminal hears his death-sentence. After hearing bad news, the patient may seem calm, but this is not so. Fortitude may sustain the patient, but the fear which has already developed the disease, is gaining the mastery and is increased by the physician’s words.
Doctors, therapists, self-taught experts, though humane, are artists who outline their thoughts relative to disease. They then fill in their delineations with sketches from textbooks or the internet. The thought of disease is formed before visiting a doctor, even before the doctor undertakes to dispel it with an antibiotic, a blood thinner, or a surgical operation. It is better to prevent disease from forming in human mind afterward to appear on the body; but to do this requires attention.
A patient’s belief is molded more or less by the doctor’s belief in the case, even if the doctor says nothing. Giving belief another direction to faith, the physician prescribes drugs until the flexibility of human thought, by chance, causes a vigorous reaction upon itself and reproduces a picture of health and harmony. The physician’s and patient’s thoughts commingle, and the stronger thoughts rule the weaker. This is why it is important for doctors to study and practice the universal law of Truth and Love.
The human mind is in conflict with itself and therefore produces disordered bodies. To ignore God, the higher Mind, is a mistake. Don’t wait for a strong healthy body before acknowledging God. Learn that God can do all things for us in sickness as in health.
Failing to recover health through treatments based on physiology or gene therapy, the despairing invalid often drops them and as a last resort turns to God. The person would have resorted to Mind first if they had more faith in the divine Mind than in drugs, time, and hygiene. Medical systems grant more power to matter than Spirit, however, when Mind asserts its mastery, we are found harmonious and spiritual.
What would be better? To beg a human-like God to heal the sick out of His free will? Or, would it make more sense to understand the infinite divine Principle which heals? If our thinking is no better than blind faith, the Science of healing is not attained and Soul-existence, in the place of molecular existence, is not comprehended. We understand Life in divine Science only as we let go of limited views and attain spiritual views. The amount of good or of evil admitted determines the harmony of our existence—our health, our longevity, and our spirituality.
We cannot serve two masters, nor perceive divine Science with the physical senses. Drugs and DNA technology cannot successfully take the place and power of the divine source of all health and perfection. If God made people both good and evil, then they must remain so. What can improve God’s work? An error in the premise must appear in the conclusion. To have one God and to experience the power of Spirit, you must love God, spiritual good, supremely.
“For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit.” Sinful desires can never unite in action with Spirit, just as good never meets at some point with evil. It is foolish to take a hesitant position or sit on the fence when it comes to our spirituality. Expecting to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error, is not wise. There is but one way—namely, God and Truth’s idea—which leads to spiritual being. The scientific government of the body must be accomplished through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the body in any other way. On this fundamental point, timid or self-righteous conservatism are inadmissible. Only by advancing from the root of Truth can scientific healing power be realized.
Educate the children to form habits agreeable to moral and spiritual laws. Children are better prepared to meet and master the limitations imposed by physical laws—especially the laws that breed disease and disorder—when they are obedient to moral and spiritual laws.
Therefore the Lord declares,
the Lord of hosts,
the Mighty One of Israel:
“Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
and avenge myself on my foes.
25 I will turn my hand against you
and will smelt away your dross as with lye
and remove all your alloy.
26 And I will restore your judges as at the first,
and your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness,
the faithful city.”
27 Zion shall be redeemed by justice,
and those in her who repent, by righteousness.
28 But rebels and sinners shall be broken together,
and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks
that you desired;
and you shall blush for the gardens
that you have chosen.
30 For you shall be like an oak
whose leaf withers,
and like a garden without water.
31 And the strong shall become tinder,
and his work a spark,
and both of them shall burn together,
with none to quench them.

It is only productive to exercise human will-power in subordination to Truth. Human-will has the tendency to misguide our decisions and bring out inferior tendencies. Mistaken human wills injure our self and others. It is the function of spiritual sense to direct man and woman aright.
Human will-power is liable to all evil. The willfulness of human mind can never heal the sick. Contrastingly, the exercise of spirituality—hope, faith, love—is the prayer of the righteous. The healing prayer is governed by Science instead of personal mortal senses.
[Jesus said] “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.
28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.

When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, Spirit directs our thought and action. Imperfect human beings grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being is doing much.
During the sensualist age, absolute divine Science may not be achieved prior to the change called death, for we have not the power to demonstrate what we do not understand. The human self must be evangelized. This task God demands us to accept gracefully, and to abandon as fast as practical the temporal, and to work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual.
If you float on the quiet surface of error and are in sympathy with error, what is there to disturb the waters? What is there to strip off error’s disguise?
To be wholly spiritual, we must be Godlike and we become that way only when we reach spiritual purity.
Here are four serious mistakes: Supposing that sin is forgiven before the sin is abandoned; that happiness is genuine when connected to sin; that death of the body frees us from anything unspiritual; and that God will forgive a sin without destroying it. We know that all will be changed “in the twinkling of an eye,” when the last trumpet will sound; but this last call of wisdom can’t come until human beings have taken every little step to yield to the whole spiritual character. Mortals do not need to delude themselves by thinking the experience of death will awaken them to glorified being.
Universal salvation rests on spiritual improvement and proof, and is unattainable without them. Heaven is not a locality, but is a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal because sin is not there. God’s person is found having no self-righteousness, but is in possession of “the mind of the Lord”
“Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie.” This text has been transformed into a popular proverb, as the tree falls, so it must lie. As we fall asleep, so we will wake up. As death finds human beings, so will human beings be after death until spiritual experience and advancement effects the needed change for the better. Mind, or Life, is not waiting to resurrect from the grave, because the grave has no power over either.
No final judgment awaits mortals. There is no time in eternity. The judgment day of wisdom comes thought by thought, by which human beings are deprived of all erroneous thoughts. As for spiritual error, there is none.
When the last human fault is destroyed then the final bell will ring and end the battle between Truth and mortality; but “no one knows about that day or hour.” Prophecy pauses at the trumpet sound. Divine Science alone can compass the heights and depths of being and reveal the infinite.
