Subject: Growth

Golden text: Psalms 65:10*

You [God] water its furrows abundantly,
    settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
    and blessing its growth.

Hosea 10:1-2, 7-8

Israel is a luxuriant vine
    that yields its fruit.
The more his fruit increased,
    the more altars he built;
as his country improved,
    he improved his pillars.
Their heart is false;
    now they must bear their guilt.
The Lord will break down their altars
    and destroy their pillars.

Samaria’s king shall perish
    like a twig on the face of the waters.
The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel,
    shall be destroyed.
Thorn and thistle shall grow up
    on their altars,
and they shall say to the mountains, “Cover us,”
    and to the hills, “Fall on us.”

As false knowledge accumulates by means of evidence gained from the five physical senses, the more confusion grows, and the more certain is the downfall of its structure.

Learn from experience. Learn virtue, respect, self-control, patience, and a reliable happiness that comes from spiritual growth.

While respecting all that is good in the Church or out of it, one’s dedication to Christ is more on the ground of demonstration than of profession. In conscience, we can’t stay in a mindset we have outgrown. We are enabled to heal the sick and overcome sin by understanding more of the divine Principle of the deathless Christ.

The elements of the physical world and the functions of the physical body will change as human mind changes its beliefs. What is now considered the best condition for biological and functional health may no longer be found indispensable to health in the future. Moral conditions will always be found harmonious and health-giving. Biological inaction and over-action are not beyond God’s control. People will be found normal and natural as mortal thought grows out of the phases which human belief creates and sanctions.

Asceticism can take form in the practice of extreme self-denial, self-mortification, rigorous abstinence, or exceedingly strict religious exercises, none of which guarantee growth in grace or spirituality.

The mistake of thinking that either fasting or feasting makes us better morally or physically is one of the fruits of “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,” concerning which God said, “you must not eat from.”[1] Human mind forms all conditions of the human body and controls the organs, bones, genes, cells, blood, etc., as directly as the determination or will moves the hand to lift a glass of water.

The erroneous senses represent birth and death as irresistible or untimely, weeds growing rapidly or flowers withered by the sun or nipped by frost, but this is true only of a mortal, not of God’s children. The truth of being is perennial and errors of thought are unreal and obsolete.

When we feel the loss of human peace, the desire for spiritual joy gets stronger. This desire for heavenly good comes even before we discover what belongs to wisdom and Love. The loss of earthly hopes and pleasures brightens the spiritual path. Pain in the body informs us that pleasure in the body is mortal, compelling us to discover spiritual joy.

Ephesians 4:11-16

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Let us rid our self of the belief that we are separate from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love. Here is the launching pad to all true spiritual growth.

Science not only reveals reasonable possibilities, but also prompts human beings to discover what God has already done. You must trust your ability to experience goodness and to bring out better and higher results. Don’t become a sluggard. Don’t fear failure, but overcome it.

Illness, disease, and defeat proceeds from fear. A sick body evolves from sick thoughts. Debauchery comes from, and causes, hurtful physical and moral conditions.

Promiscuousness and self-centeredness are educated in mortal mind when human beings repeat the same thoughts over and over. This education is at the expense of spiritual growth. It is better to stop talking constantly about the body. It is better to stop expecting pleasure or pain from the body.

Any conclusion pro or con, deduced from matter’s assumed consciousness leads to legitimizing the testimony of physical senses and disease. But we can reverse the testimony of physical senses.

Sputnik and NASA changed the world view when launching into outer space. Setbacks happened, but courage set the precedence. Consequently, outgrown philosophies, based on what physical senses say, have become extinct. The physical law of gravity can’t define us. Space exploration, thought expansion, bravery, and open-mindedness, continues.

Albert Einstein[2] recognized, and made public, the general theory of relativity. Time, space, and mass are relative, or in other words uncertain, but since they’ve been better identified, facts are more correctly studied and scientific corrections and modifications continue.

The Science Jesus taught and lived must triumph over all beliefs related to life, substance, and intelligence, and over the many errors that grow from such beliefs. The divine must overcome the human at every point.

Psalms 129

 “Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth”—
    let Israel now say—
“Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth,
    yet they have not prevailed against me.
The plowers plowed upon my back;
    they made long their furrows.”
The Lord is righteous;
    he has cut the cords of the wicked.
May all who hate Zion
    be put to shame and turned backward!
Let them be like the grass on the housetops,
    which withers before it grows up,
with which the reaper does not fill his hand
    nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
nor do those who pass by say,
    “The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
    We bless you in the name of the Lord!”

Educate the children to form habits agreeable to moral and spiritual laws. Children are better prepared to meet and master the limitations imposed by physical laws—especially the laws that breed disease and disorder—when they are obedient to moral and spiritual laws.

Parents, if you allow your children incessantly to play computer games, want stuff, or be picky, don’t complain later in life if your children are complicated or frivolous. Be accountable. Worry less “about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear,”[3] and pro-actively grow together in the understanding of man and woman’s higher nature. Children can still retain their innocence while maturing. You will do more than imaginable when you also continue to mature along with the children.

Why not maintain a mental attitude of wanting to learn and grow?  Why not be conscious of unchanging divine Love rather than human love? Why not notice the manifestations of Spirit rather than the passing of years?

As our consciousness of the eternal replaces the consciousness of time, we literally could grow no older. From an empirical point of view, we know cell divisions take place in each living being continuously, practically creating new bodies. Old cells in our bodies die and yield their place to new cells that are forming.

It is made plain that decrepitude is neither law nor a necessity of nature, but an illusion passed along with bad training. There are many examples in the world of enduring newness, untouched by time. These examples furnish a useful hint to the ingenious mind that might work with more certainty than Bill Gates[4] who tapped into instantaneous and seamless communication and commerce around the globe by means of computers, unrestricted by the obstacle of time.

Impossibilities never occur. Years don’t make us older. Dying convictions make us old. Our convictions manifest on our bodies, so why not have fresh, sprightly convictions?

The infinite never began and it will never end.

By attributing more and more intelligence to spirituality, and giving less and less power to physical laws and human beings, we promote wisdom and health.

There is no growth from material molecule to mind. Creation is the impartation of divine Mind.
