Golden text: James 4:8*
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
I Chronicles 23
When David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 Davidassembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites. 3 The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was 38,000 men. 4 “Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said, “shall have charge of the work in the house of the Lord, 6,000 shall be officers and judges, 5 4,000 gatekeepers, and 4,000 shall offer praises to the Lord with the instruments that I have made for praise.” 6 And David organized them in divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 The sons of Gershon were Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan. 10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11 Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, therefore they became counted as a single father’s house.
12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to dedicate the most holy things, that he and his sons forever should make offerings before the Lord and minister to him and pronounce blessings in his name forever. 14 But the sons of Moses the man of God were named among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17 The sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief and Isshiah the second.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died having no sons, but only daughters; their kinsmen, the sons of Kish, married them. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 These were the sons of Levi by their fathers’ houses, the heads of fathers’ houses as they were listed according to the number of the names of the individuals from twenty years old and upward who were to do the work for the service of the house of the Lord. 25 For David said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 And so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the things for its service.” 27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God. 29 Their duty was also to assist with the showbread, the flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size. 30 And they were to stand every morning, thanking and praising the Lord, and likewise at evening, 31 and whenever burnt offerings were offered to the Lord on Sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, according to the number required of them, regularly before the Lord. 32 Thus they were to keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and to attend the sons of Aaron, their brothers, for the service of the house of the Lord.

The Infinite can do nothing less than give all goodness since God is absolute good, wisdom, and Love—the all-knowing Mind. God’s manifestation doesn’t appear simply on the ground of lip-service; however, modest fervent affirmations of God’s presence can kick-start prayer.
Meditation can’t change God’s law, but it can bring us into sync with immortal being. Prayer is not the mere habit of trying to persuade the divine Mind, as we would try to persuade a human being. Methods of prayer that perpetually try to humanize God are sad mistakes—errors that impede spiritual growth. As a first step, we can ask God to deliver us, but by taking more steps, and by demonstrating spiritual goodness, we can reach the living Truth.
Right is revolutionary. Teachers must know the truth themselves; they must live it and love it or they cannot impart it to others. We dirty our garments with conservatism, and afterward we must wash them clean. When the spiritual sense of Truth unfolds its harmonies, you take no risks in the policy of error. Expect to heal simply by repeating my words, by right talking and wrong acting, and you will be disappointed. Such a practice does not demonstrate the Science by which divine Mind heals the sick.
The Apostle Paul encouraged people to have the Mind that was in Christ.
The unscientific practitioner reads and says: “You are sick. You are stressed out, you must rest. Your body is weak, it must be strengthened. You have a neurological problem and must be treated for it.” Science pierces through negative information and strives for the rights of intelligence, asserting that Mind controls body and brain.
Mind-science teaches mortals “Don’t get tired of helping others.” It dissipates fatigue to do good deeds. In service to our Maker, generosity will not deprive us, likewise, holding back our wealth does not make us richer. Our strength is increased with our increased understanding of truth. Strength is not minimized by voicing truth. Caffeine and other related stimulants aren’t equal to truth when needing energy or inspiration.
Debra Lynne Katz, a professional clairvoyant reader, healer, and spiritual counselor, says in her book, You are Psychic: The Art of Clairvoyant Reading & Healing, “We are all energetically connected.” Katz also shares with readers the importance of not continuously expecting to be strengthened by other people’s energy, “The best energy, or fuel, for your body is your own.” This is valuable advice, preparing human thought to take the next step of recognizing divine Spirit as the infinite source of divine strength and immortality. Human energy is mortal and claims separate spirits, whereas divine energy unites consciousness to God, the one immortal Spirit.
I entertain no doubt of the altruism and philanthropy of many readers, psychics, and spiritualists, but I can’t coincide with the views of a mystical, supernatural being or force because they remove phenomena from the realm of reason. Science puts an end to mystery and explains extraordinary phenomena as logical.
When [Jesus] came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. 2 And behold, a lepercame to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”
5 When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

The act of allowing our thoughts to excessively contemplate physical wants or conditions induces those very conditions.
“Cleanliness is next to godliness,” but washing should only be for the purpose of keeping the body clean, and this can be done without scrubbing the whole surface every day. Water is not the natural habitat of humanity. Obsessive washing is no more natural or necessary than would be the process of taking a fish out of water every day and covering it with dirt in order to make it thrive more vigorously in its own element. Cleanliness within and without is good. Do not be patient with filth; however, in caring for an infant you don’t need to wash his or her little body all over each day to keep it as sweet as the newly-opened flower.
Giving drugs to infants, noticing every intestinal excretion, and constantly directing the mind to what the body might be doing wrong will convey negative mental images to children’s developing thoughts and often stamp them there; making it probable at any time for ills to be reproduced in the very ailments feared. A child may have allergies or ADHD (Attention Deficient Hyperactive Disorder) if you say so, or any other malady fearfully held in the beliefs concerning their mind and body. Thus are laid the foundations of the belief in disease, and thus are children educated into limitation and the cycle of mortal life and death.
The treatment of mental disorders is especially interesting. However stubborn the case, it gives up more readily than do most diseases to the healthful action of truth, which counteracts error. The arguments to be used in curing mental disorders are the same as in other diseases: namely, the impossibility that material particles (arranged as brain) can control or derange mind. Temporal particles cannot suffer or cause suffering. Know that truth and love will establish a healthy state, guide and control human mind or the thought of the patient, and destroy all error, whether it is called dementia, depression, autism, hatred, or any other disorder.
To keep truth firmly in your patient’s thoughts, explain divine Science to them, but not too soon. Before explaining Science, first prepare your patients thought, or else you will trouble and confuse them by causing them to work against their own interests. The Scientist’s argument rests on the Christ-like scientific basis of being. The Scripture declares, “The Lord is God [good]; besides him there is no other.” Even so, harmony is universal, and discord is unreal. Divine Science declares that Mind is substance. It declares that temporal substance neither feels, suffers, nor enjoys. Hold these points strongly in view. Keep in mind the reality of being—that everyone is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent. Remember that our perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love.
Matter cannot be inflamed. Inflammation is fear, an excited state of human beings which is not normal. Spiritual Mind is the only cause; therefore, disease is neither a cause nor an effect. Mind in every case is the eternal God, good. Sin, disease, and death have no foundations in Truth. As a human belief, inflammation excites the system’s action because minds are contemplating unpleasant things or some dreaded situation. Inflammation never appears in a part of the body which human thought does not reach. That is why narcotics relieve inflammation; quieting the thought by inducing insensibility, resorting to matter instead of relying on Mind. Narcotics do not remove pain in any scientific sense. They only render human mind temporarily less fearful until it can overcome its defensive, excited thinking.
How can we be relaxed, and then all of a sudden break out in a nervous sweat? Because the thought of something frightening can quickly lead to a disturbed body. In the same way thought increases or diminishes blood pressure, mutates the genes, or affects the lungs, bowels, and heart. The muscles, moving quickly or slowly and impelled or palsied by thought, represent the action of all the organs of the human system, including brain and viscera. To remove the error producing disorder, you must calm and instruct human mind with spiritual Truth.
Anesthesia is a state of unawareness, reflex loss, narcosis, and relaxation. General anesthesia is most commonly achieved by inhalation or by intravenous techniques. When first administered, the patient may feel warm or have a feeling of detachment followed by excitement then unconsciousness. Anesthesia produces artificial insensitivity to pain and a loss of consciousness. This process shows that the pain is in the mind, because as soon as the anesthesia (whether local, epidural, or spinal) wears off, the belief of pain will return, unless the mental image occasioning the pain is removed by recognizing the truth of being.
Morphine is administered to a patient and in twenty minutes the sufferer is numb. To the patient there is no longer any pain. Yet any physician—allopathic, homeopathic, holistic—will tell you that the troublesome material cause is still present. Doctors and nurses know that when the influence of the pain reliever is exhausted, the patient will find their self in the same pain unless the belief which occasions the pain has meanwhile been changed. Where is the pain while the patient sleeps?
The fleshly body which you call me, is human mind, and this mind is limited in perceptions and sensations. Those very limited perceptions and sensations originated and developed the limited body, which we call material. The materialism of parent and child is only in human mind, as the dead body proves; for when the human being has resigned the body to dust, the body is no longer the parent, even in appearance.
The sick knows nothing of the mental process by which they are weakened, and next to nothing of the metaphysical method by which they can be healed. If they ask about their disease, tell them only what is best for them to know. Assure them that they think too much about their ailments and have already heard too much on that subject. Turn their thoughts away from their bodies to better ideas. Teach them that their being is sustained by Spirit, not by matter, and that they find health, peace, and harmony in God, divine Love.
