Golden text: James 2:12-13

 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Hosea 4:1-2, 16-19

Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites,
because the Lord has a charge to bring
against you who live in the land:
“There is no faithfulness, no love,
no acknowledgment of God in the land.
There is only cursing, lying and murder,
stealing and adultery;
they break all bounds,
and bloodshed follows bloodshed

How then can the Lord pasture them
like lambs in a meadow?
17 Ephraim is joined to idols;
leave him alone!
18 Even when their drinks are gone,
they continue their prostitution;
their rulers dearly love shameful ways.
19 A whirlwind will sweep them away,
and their sacrifices will bring them shame.

Hosea 6:1-6

“Come, let us return to the Lord.
He has torn us to pieces
but he will heal us;
he has injured us
but he will bind up our wounds.
After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us,
that we may live in his presence.
Let us acknowledge the Lord;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.”

“What can I do with you, Ephraim?
What can I do with you, Judah?
Your love is like the morning mist,
like the early dew that disappears.
Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets,
I killed you with the words of my mouth—
then my judgments go forth like the sun.
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

21st Century Science and Health

Gods. Mythology; the trained reaction to think that life, substance, and intelligence are both mindful and mindless; the hypotheses that matter can be conscious; the rationale that infinite Mind is in finite forms; the various theories that hold mind to be a temporal cognition, existing in brains, nerves, chemicals; supposititious minds going in and out of matter, mistaken and mortal souls; the serpents of error, which say, “You will be like God.”[1]

God. The great “I AM;”[2] the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.

Moses declared the Lord’s first command is: “You shall have no other gods before me,”[3] however, despite this Scriptural directive, human beings have an inordinate zeal to establish the opposite error of many spirits. The allegorical serpent argues, “You will be like God.”[4] This argument is intent on persuading, through every avenue possible, the conviction that Soul is in body and that infinite Spirit, Life, is in humanly defined forms—divided.

Instead of possessing our own sentient form, we reflect Soul-sense. God, the Soul of all existence, being perpetual in individuality, harmony, and spirituality, imparts and preserves harmony and spirituality in us through Mind, not material atoms or energy. The only excuse for entertaining human opinions and rejecting the Science of being is our unawareness of Spirit—ignorance that vanishes as divine metaphysical Science is understood. Through spiritual understanding, we enter the universe of Truth on earth and learn that Spirit is infinite and supreme. Divine Mind and human mind do not unite any more than the colors white and black join. When one appears, the other disappears.

Error assumes that God’s children are both mind and matter. Divine Science contradicts the physical senses, refuses human assumptions, and asks: What is the Ego? Where is the source of Ego, and what is its destiny?

The disparity between our spirituality representing Spirit, and the materiality representing the error that life and intelligence are temporal, shows the pleasures and pains of temporal life to be myths. Humans push the gap wider by claiming the myths to be intelligent gods, whereas, our genuine selfhood is recognizable only in what is good and true. We are neither self-made nor made by human beings. God revealed, and continues to reveal, us.

The inebriate believes that there is pleasure in intoxication. The thief believes something is gained by stealing, and the hypocrite thinks no one notices their deceit. The Science of Mind corrects such mistakes, for Truth proves the fallacy of error.

Erroneous perceptions are false gods, nonbeings; gods we do not desire to honor or fear.

Tenth. Contribution; tithe; showing reverence; gratitude; a sacrifice to the gods.

Recall words that have been credited to Thomas Jefferson concerning slavery, “I tremble, when I remember that God is just.”[5] I tremble whenever I see a person, for the petty reward of money, teaching his or her slight knowledge of Mind-power—increasing the probability of communicating the teacher’s own bad morals. This sad state deals pitilessly with a community unprepared for self-defense.

Spirituality causes people to turn naturally from material wave/particles to eternal Spirit, as the flower turns from darkness to light. People then secure those things which “no eye has seen, no ear has heard.”[6] Paul and John realized that as human beings achieve worldly honor only by sacrifice, so they must gain heavenly riches by forsaking all worldliness. Then people will have nothing in common with the worldly inclinations, goals, and outcomes. Do not judge the future advancement of divine Science by the steps already taken, unless you yourself will be condemned for failing to take the first step.

Our material human theories are destitute of Science. The true understanding of God is spiritual and reveals our spirituality. Divine understanding removes the misleading false evidence that points to other gods or powers, such as genetics, hate, and minds arguing against the one Spirit.

Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience—that is, all power, all presence, all Science. Hence all is in reality the expressed thought of Mind.

Matthew 12:1-8

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”

He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

21st Century Science and Health

Jesus’ persecutors made their strongest attack on his instructions of love and life; they even endeavored to hold Jesus at the mercy of matter and kill him according to the physical law of destruction.

The Pharisees claimed to know and to teach the divine will, but they only hindered the success of Jesus’ mission. Even many of his students became obstacles. If the Teacher hadn’t taken a student and taught the unseen truths of God, he would not have been crucified. The determination to hold Spirit in the grasp of matter is the persecutor of Truth and Love.

The world’s master is material energy. Jesus served God. The world serves money. His inclinations were pure. The inclinations of mortals are to indulge the flesh and ego. Jesus’ senses drank in the spiritual evidence of health, holiness, and life. The world’s senses absorb the material evidence of sickness, sin, and death.

Jesus knew the people to be wicked and adulterous, seeking the material more than the spiritual.

Theologies that start from the false premise that God created human beings, try to convert a disordered person into a Christian. These teachings that define people as both physical and mental, with a mind at the mercy of matter for every function, formation, and manifestation, start from the lowest instead of the highest concept of being, and reject the divine Principle which created us spiritually. We can’t produce the harmony and unity of Spirit from anatomical or bio-theological positions.

Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated oneness with Spirit. Jesus’ accomplishments are worthy of respect. His lifework was done in justice to himself and in mercy to humanity; however, Jesus did not do our work for us. He showed us how to be responsible for our own thoughts and actions. Jesus acted boldly against the human perceptions self-authorized evidence, and against self-righteous dogma and practices. With healing power, Jesus proved the powerlessness of all that opposed goodness.

In founding a pathological system of spirituality, I have labored to expound divine Principle, and not to exalt personality. The weapons of bigotry, idolatry, spiritual unawareness, and envy, will fall before an honest heart. The mindset that adulterates divine Science is the mindset trying to void out Science. Falsity has no foundation. “The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep.”[7] Dishonesty and a lack of spiritual experience do not establish, and cannot overthrow, a scientific system of ethics.

It is essential to understand, instead of believe, what most nearly relates to the happiness of being. Someone who pursues Truth through reliance on a human doctrine does not understand the infinite. We can’t find the immutable and spiritual in the mutable and humanized. We must experience and live our spiritual understanding in order to succeed in the knowledge of Science. The understanding of Truth gives full faith in Truth and spiritual understanding is better “than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”[8]

We must form true God-like models in thought and look at them continually or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives. Allow unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, and love to control your mind and body.
