Golden text: Proverbs 3:21-26*

Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life; don’t for a minute lose sight of them. They’ll keep your soul alive and well, they’ll keep you fit and attractive. You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip. You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner, Because God will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound.

I Chronicles 10

The Philistines went to war against Israel; the Israelites ran for their lives from the Philistines but fell, slaughtered on Mount Gilboa. The Philistines zeroed in on Saul and his sons and killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua. The battle went hard against Saul—the archers found him and wounded him. Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and finish me off before these pagan pigs get to me and make a sport of my body.” But his armor bearer, restrained by both reverence and fear, wouldn’t do it. So Saul took his own sword and killed himself. The armor bearer, panicked because Saul was dead, then killed himself. 6-7 So Saul and his three sons—all four the same day—died. When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and ran off; the Philistines came and moved in. 8-10 The next day the Philistines came to plunder the dead bodies and found Saul and his sons dead on Mount Gilboa. They stripped Saul, removed his head and his armor, and put them on exhibit throughout Philistia, reporting the victory news to their idols and the people. Then they put Saul’s armor on display in the temple of their gods and placed his skull as a trophy in the temple of their god Dagon. 11-12 The people of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul. All of their fighting men went into action—retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh, gave them a dignified burial under the oak at Jabesh, and mourned their deaths for seven days. 13-14 Saul died in disobedience, disobedient to God. He didn’t obey God’s words. Instead of praying, he went to a witch to seek guidance. Because he didn’t go to God for help, God took his life and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

21st Century Science and Health**

Sin, sickness, and mortality are the presumptuous contradictions of Spirit and reality.

If that which contradicts God is real, there must be two powers and God would not be powerful and infinite. Can the Higher Power be Almighty if another mighty and self-creative cause exists and influences humankind? If the divine Parent has “Life in himself,”[1] could Life, or God, live in evil and create it? Can matter control Life, Spirit, therefore, and so defeat omnipotence?

Is the chainsaw, which destroys a tree’s so-called life, superior to omnipotence? Can a bullet deprive consciousness of Life—that is, of God, who is the life of spiritual being? Clinically dead people have returned to life and said they still had a consciousness. God, Life, is not at the mercy of matter/energy. The doctrine that matter has power is, “confusion worse confounded.”[2] If two statements directly contradict each other and one is true, the other must be false.

Since God is All, there is no dimension for something unlike Spirit. God alone designed all and called it good.[3] Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal and can’t be the product of God. A limited, contradictory mindset can receive no encouragement from the fact that Science demonstrates the unreality of limitation and sin, for the contradictor would make a reality of that which opposes Life, Truth, and Love; would make that real which is unreal, and store up “wrath and indignation.”[4] Do not join in a conspiracy against yourself. Continue to recognize the awful unreality by which the human mind is deceived. Repent, think differently, abandon the unnatural and you can fully understand the unreality of that which argues against the infinite.

Voices of solemn import are heard in the sacred sanctuary of Truth. Are we heeding these voices? If so, we are burying error and resurrecting to spiritual life. These signs are seen when the temporary pleasures and pains pass away from our lives.

When the Science of Mind is understood, psychics, spiritualism, and channeling will be found lacking, having no scientific basis, no origin, no proof, and no power outside of human testimony. It is the human mind and physical sensation that gives temporal life to psychics and spiritualism. There is no physical sensation in divine Spirit

The basis and structure of psychics and spiritualism are material and physical. The spirits of psychics are many bodies; quantifiable and restricted in character and quality. Channeling therefore is presuming Spirit, which is ever infinite, to be divisible. The theory of a quantifiable being is contrary to Christian Science.

There is only one spiritual existence, the Life of which physical senses can’t grasp or manipulate. Divine Principle speaks through spiritual sense. If a material body—in other words, a mental embodiment of mortality and materialism—were permeated by Spirit, that body would disappear to fleshly sense, would be deathless. A condition precedent to communion with Spirit is the gain of spiritual life.

High-level guides, spirits, personality entities, and so on, are but limited communicators. God is the only truth-giver. As light destroys darkness and in the place of darkness all is light, so in absolute Science, Soul, or God, destroys mortality and in the place of mortality all is immortality. Fire and frost mingle as readily as Spirit and spirits. In either case, one does not support the other. Human belief (the limited sense of life) and immortal Truth (the spiritual sense) are the weeds and the wheat,[5] separated by progress.

Perfection is not expressed through imperfection. Spirit is not made manifest through its antipode, human energy. Biofields and bioenergy do not transmit truth energy.

God, good, being ever-present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present. Sin, sickness, and death are not transferable or scientific. In Science, individual good derived from God, the infinite All-in-all, may flow to human beings from other people or from those who are no longer on this earth, but evil is neither communicable nor scientific. A sinning earthly mortal is neither the reality of Life nor the channel through which truth passes to earth. The joys of interaction and socializing become the farce of sin when bad influences and suffering become contagious. Not clairvoyant reading or interpersonal communication, but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity.

Mark 6:14-29

King Herod heard of all this, for by this time the name of Jesus was on everyone’s lips. He said, “This has to be John the Baptizer come back from the dead—that’s why he’s able to work miracles!”

15 Others said, “No, it’s Elijah.” Others said, “He’s a prophet, just like one of the old-time prophets.” 16 But Herod wouldn’t budge: “It’s John, sure enough. I cut off his head, and now he’s back, alive.”

17-20 Herod was the one who had ordered the arrest of John, put him in chains, and sent him to prison at the nagging of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. For John had provoked Herod by naming his relationship with Herodias “adultery.” Herodias, smoldering with hate, wanted to kill him, but didn’t dare because Herod was in awe of John. Convinced that he was a holy man, he gave him special treatment. Whenever he listened to him he was miserable with guilt—and yet he couldn’t stay away. Something in John kept pulling him back.

21-22 But a portentous day arrived when Herod threw a birthday party, inviting all the brass and bluebloods in Galilee. Herodias’s daughter entered the banquet hall and danced for the guests. She dazzled Herod and the guests.

22-23 The king said to the girl, “Ask me anything. I’ll give you anything you want.” Carried away, he kept on, “I swear, I’ll split my kingdom with you if you say so!”

24 She went back to her mother and said, “What should I ask for?”

“Ask for the head of John the Baptizer.”

25 Excited, she ran back to the king and said, “I want the head of John the Baptizer served up on a platter. And I want it now!”

26-29 That sobered the king up fast. But unwilling to lose face with his guests, he caved in and let her have her wish. The king sent the executioner off to the prison with orders to bring back John’s head. He went, cut off John’s head, brought it back on a platter, and presented it to the girl, who gave it to her mother. When John’s disciples heard about this, they came and got the body and gave it a decent burial.

21st Century Science and Health

Burial. Corporeality and physical sense put out of sight and hearing; annihilation. Submergence in Spirit; immortality brought to light.

“Agree to disagree” with oncoming symptoms of chronic or acute disease, whether it is cancer, diabetes, or coronary artery disease. Meet the initial stages of disease with as powerful mental opposition as a legislator would employ to defeat the passage of an inhuman law. Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the petition of human mind, alias matter, lobbying against the supremacy of Spirit. Exclude the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when you are delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, “You are well!”[6]

Instead of blind and calm resignation to the beginning or advanced stages of disease, confidently rebel against them. Evict the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result. It is a mistake to suffer for anything but your own irresponsibility and narrow-minded thinking. Truth will destroy suffering, and real suffering for your own sins will cease in proportion as the sin ceases.

Justice declares the presence of law. Injustice declares the absence of law. When the body says, “I am sick,” never plead guilty. Since matter can’t talk, it must be human mind which speaks; therefore, meet the implication, “I am sick,” with a protest against it, but be fair to others if you need to tell them you have a contagious illness. Disease has no intelligence to declare itself something and announce its name. Human mortal mind alone sentences itself. Therefore, make your own terms with sickness and be just to yourself and to others.

Mentally contradict every complaint from the body. Evolve into the spiritual consciousness of Life as Love—as all that is pure, and bearing the fruits of Spirit. Fear is the source of sickness. You offset fear and negative desires through divine Mind; consequently, it is through divine Mind that you overcome disease. Only while fear or sin remains can it bring forth death. To cure a bodily ailment, every broken moral law should be taken into account and the error be rebuked. Fear, which is an element of all disease, must be driven out so you can focus better on God. With less fearful and ignorant thinking, you are able to see truth. The only course is to take antagonistic grounds against all that is opposed to the health, holiness, and harmony of our spirituality, of God’s image.

Human beings must have trials and self-denials, as well as joys and victories, until all erroneous mindsets are destroyed.

The educated belief that Soul is in the body causes human beings to regard death as a friend. The Bible calls death an enemy, and the story of Jesus indicates that death isn’t a steppingstone out of mortality into immortality and bliss. Life and living is “the way.”[7]
