Subject: Life revealed as whole and safe

Golden text: Psalms 4:8*

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Exodus 32:1-4, 30-35

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

35The next day Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.” 33 But the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book. 34 But now go, lead the people to the place about which I have spoken to you; behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.”

35 Then the Lord sent a plague on the people, because they made the calf, the one that Aaron made.

The Scriptures are sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained. The true theory of the universe, including person, is not in material history but in spiritual development.

The Science of being reveals individual spirituality as based on Soul. Physical sense defines humanity as based on matter and from this premise infers the mortality of the body.

Divine reason and revelation coincide. If we believe otherwise, we may be sure that either our logic is a fault or that we have misinterpreted revelation. Good never causes evil and good doesn’t create anything that can cause evil.

God did not create a physical universe as described through materialist views.

Good does not design a mind susceptible of causing evil or of being confused, for evil and confusion contend with creation. Destructive energy is not the outcome of infinite good. Whatever contradicts the real nature of the divine esse, though human faith may cover the contradiction in angelic costumes, is without foundation.

Spirit and mortality can neither coexist nor co-operate, and they do not create each other. Truth can’t create error; error can’t create truth.

If that which contradicts God is real, there must be two powers and God would not be powerful and infinite. Can the Higher Power be Almighty if another mighty and self-creative cause exists and influences humankind? If the divine Parent has “Life in himself,”[1] could Life, or God, live in evil and create it? Can human beings control Life and so defeat omnipotence?

As we stop thinking that love and intelligence are in human minds or circumstances, spiritual facts of being appear. The idea or intelligence of spiritual facts is in God.

God did not create a thought that can go wrong.

God did not create something out of nothing; God did not create human fleshly beings to submit to and serve Him. Mortal humanity is not the real identity of people. The First Cause isn’t changeable, passing in and out of dust or nothingness.

In Isaiah, we read: “I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things,”[2] but the prophet referred to divine law dawning on human consciousness, causing evil and wrong thinking to surface before being reduced to its common denominator, nothingness. The infected system needs to be scanned entirely in order to clean the hard-drive. During moral purification, when the symptoms of evil and illusion are aggravated, we might ignorantly think that the Lord brought about the evil. Thinking it through metaphysically, we ascertain that the discovery of God’s law uncovers so-called sin and its effects only that Truth may annihilate all sense of evil and all power to sin.

As a physical, theoretical life-basis is found to be a misinterpretation of existence, the scientific and divine Principle of our spirituality dawns upon human thought.

It was Mind which saved the Israelites from belief in the plagues.

Luke 7:18-23

The disciples of John reported all these things to him. And John, 19 calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” 20 And when the men had come to [Jesus], they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?’” 21 In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. 22 And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers[e] are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. 23 And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”

The godly thought impels a more exalted worship and self-discipline. Spiritual perception brings out the possibilities of being and destroys reliance on anything accept God. Action and thought were made to image forth our Maker.

We are susceptible to believe in more than one supreme ruler, or in some power less than God. We imagine that Mind can be imbedded in a sensuous body. What happens when the material body takes a turn for the worse and gives out? What happens when the belief of life in unstable matter overloads and crashes? Do you believe the deathless Soul escapes from matter and lives on? But those are unworkable questions.

God, divine good, does not kill humanity in order to give us eternal Life, for God alone is our life. It is evil that dies; good doesn’t die. No matter where you are in the universe, God is the center and circumference of existence.

When using the light of divine Science, we see beyond the surface of mortals and detect inverted thoughts and erroneous beliefs so as not to be fooled by them. We also borrow thought from a higher source than human knowledge to look at cause rather than effect, to see celestial Truth replace error.

All Science is divine. Human thought never devised a tiny bit of true being. Human belief looks for and interprets in its own way the echo of Spirit and seems to have reversed it and repeated it materially. The human mind never produces a real tone or sends forth a positive sound.

Incompatible questions regarding divine Science on one hand and popular theology on the other are: Should Science explain cause and effect as both natural and spiritual? Should all that is beyond the recognition of the physical senses be called supernatural and be left at the mercy of speculation?

Self-delusion may imagine that opposites attract; but in Christ’s Science, Truth never mingles with error. Mind has no affinity with material limitations and therefore Truth can cast out the ills of the flesh. Mind, God, sends forth the aroma of Spirit, the atmosphere of intelligence. It has been demonstrated to me that Life is God and that the might of omnipotent Spirit doesn’t share its strength with material forces or human will.

Instead of God sending sickness and death, Spirit destroys them and brings to light spirituality, of which there is no sickness and death. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes and subsequently correct them. God does not cause us to sin, to be sick, or to die.

Does God create anew what Life already created? Nothing is new to God. The Scriptures are definite on this point, declaring that God’s work is finished,[3] and it is good.[4]

Consciousness is guided to “where the child was”[5]—even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes. Thus, the whole earth will be transformed by Truth as enlightened thought displaces the darkness of error.

A change in human thought changes all the physical symptoms and determines a case for better or for worse. When one’s false belief is corrected, Truth sends a report of health over the body.

Revelation 21:9-11

Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.

In chapter twenty-one, the Revelator takes up another view, adapted to console the struggling soul, overwhelmed with “horror and exhaustion.”[6]

Revelation 21:9. One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

This ministry of Truth, this message from divine Love, carried John away in spirit. It exalted him until he became conscious of the spiritual facts of being and the “New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God”[7]—until he became aware of the spiritual outpouring of bliss and glory which he describes as the city “laid out like a square.”[8] The beauty of this text is that human misery, represented by the seven angelic vials full of seven plagues, has full compensation in the law of Love. Note this, that the very message, or swift-winged thought which poured forth hatred and torment, brought also the experience which at last lifted the seer to behold the great city, the four equal sides of which were heaven-given and heaven-giving.

Think of this: for it can lift the sackcloth from your eyes and allow you to behold the soft-winged dove descending on you. The very circumstance, which your suffering sense thinks is horrible and distressing, Love can make you entertain “angels without knowing it.”[9] Then thought gently whispers: Come on! No more attention on narrow-minded conclusions; now, experience the true sense of Love. Observe the Lamb’s wife—Love wedded to its own spiritual idea. Then comes the marriage reception, for this revelation will destroy forever the physical plagues imposed on human beings by limited perceptions.
