Subject: Life overcomes birth and death
Golden text: Proverbs 14:23-26
In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty. 24 The crown of the wise is their wealth, but the folly of fools brings folly. 25 A truthful witness saves lives, but one who breathes out lies is deceitful. 26 In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.
And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,
29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,
according to your word;
30 for my eyes have seen your salvation
31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to your people Israel.”
33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

The offspring of heavenly-minded parents inherit more intellect, better balanced minds, and more reliable health.
If unfortunate circumstances places promising children in the arms of gross parents, often these beautiful children wither like tropical flowers born in the snowy Alps. If by chance those children live to become parents themselves, they may pass along to their children the grosser traits of what they were taught when growing up. Society can ask: What noble ambition can inspire the child to overcome bad traits? What hope of happiness can be gained to head-off reducing the child to a hopeless wreck?
Raising children is a great responsibility, a more solemn trust than climbing the corporate ladder or accumulating material possessions. Take immense care not to transmit to children what is unworthy of perpetuity.
To advance humankind, the development of mortals must improve. The scientific essence of marriage is unity. Having sex is acceptable for the purpose of reproducing a higher human species, but every stage of child-bearing must be kept mentally pure with the sanctity of virginity.
Educate children to form habits agreeable to moral and spiritual laws. Children are better prepared to meet and master the limitations imposed by physical laws—especially the laws that breed disease and disorder—when they are obedient to moral and spiritual laws.
Parents, if you allow your children incessantly to play computer games, want stuff, or be picky, don’t complain later in life if your children are complicated or frivolous. Be accountable. Worry less “about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear,” and pro-actively grow together in the understanding of man and woman’s higher nature. Children can still retain their innocence while maturing. You will do more than imaginable when you also mature along with the children.
By attributing more and more intelligence to spirituality, and giving less and less power to physical laws and human beings, we promote wisdom and health.
A great truth in the Science of being is that our spirituality was, is, and ever will be indisputably in harmony with complete reality because our true self is the image or reflection of God. God’s children are not inverted or subverted, but upright and Godlike.
Ephesians 6:1-4, 10-18
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.

A parent is the strongest educator either for or against crime. Parental thoughts form the embryo of another human mind and unconsciously shape it, either after a model odious to the parent, or through divine influence “after the pattern for them, which was shown to you on the mountain.” Spiritual Science helps us learn of the one Mind and of the availability of good as the remedy for every problem.
Children can learn that obedience to parents and guardians promotes self-control, whereas disobedience blights self-government. It is beneficial to teach children at the earliest stages possible the realities of health and holiness. Children are more tractable than adults and learn readily to love the simple truths that make them happy and good.
A little girl, who had occasionally listened to my explanations, badly wounded her finger. She seemed not to notice the wound. On being questioned about it she answered ingenuously, “There is no sensation in matter.” Running off with happy eyes, she presently added, “Mamma, my finger is not a bit sore.”
It might have been months or years before the child’s parents would have laid aside their drugs or reached the mental height their little daughter so naturally attained. The stubborn beliefs and theories of parents often choke the good seed in the minds of their offspring and themselves. Superstition, like “the birds of the air,” snatches away the good seed before it has sprouted.
Teaching children divine Science among their first lessons is useful. Don’t teach hurtful knowledge. Monitor and reduce discussions, theories, or thoughts about sickness. To prevent the experience of error and its sufferings, keep out of the minds of your children fearful, sinful, or diseased thoughts. Fearful and diseased thoughts are excluded on the same principle as the exclusion of sinful thoughts. This makes divine Science available early in life.
Some invalids are unwilling to know spiritual facts. They don’t want to hear about the deceptions of temporal things and false laws. They even devote themselves a little longer to their material gods and cling to mortal life and knowledge. They expect this error to do more for them than they are willing to admit the only living and true God can do. Impatient at your explanation, unwilling to investigate Science, they embrace false thinking more fully and suffer the delusive consequences, while Mind-Science could purge the problems.
Intent and action are not properly valued before they are understood. It is well to wait until those whom you would benefit are ready for the blessing. Science is working changes in personal characters as well as in the universe.
To obey the Scriptural command, “Come out from their midst and be separate,” is to invite society’s disapproval; but this disapproval, more than approval, enables you to be spiritual. Pope John Paul II said, “We cannot live for the future without intuiting that the meaning of life is greater than temporality and is above it. If the societies and the men of our continent have lost interest in such a meaning, they must rediscover it.” The Biblical Paul realized, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Error assumes that God’s children are both conscious and unconscious. Divine Science contradicts and refuses erroneous assumptions, and asks: What is the Ego? Where is the source of Ego, and what is its destiny? The Ego-child is the reflection of the Ego-God. The Ego-child is the image and likeness of conscious Mind, Spirit, divine Principle.
The one Ego, the one Mind or Spirit called God, is infinite individuality. The one Ego supplies all form and attractiveness. Spirit reflects reality and divinity in our individual spirituality and in all manifestations.
Harmonious individual being has existed forever and is always beyond and above the mortal illusion of life, substance, and intelligence as existent in measurable energies. The Science of being reveals spiritual beings as complete, unbound, even as the Father-Mother is universal. Reality is governed by Soul instead of sense, by the law of Spirit, not by the so-called laws of physics.
God is Love, the divine Father-Mother, infinite Principle, called Person. Our true consciousness is in the mental, not in any bodily or independent likeness of Spirit. Indeed, the body presents no proper likeness of divinity, though human ego would gladly have us believe otherwise.
In divine Science, individual spiritual ideas multiply as they reflect Spirit’s creative power. The reflection is a mental manifestation of the multitudinous forms of Mind which people the realm of the real. Principle governs the reflection. God’s children do not reproduce by multiplying their own spirit, but by reflecting Spirit.
We welcome the increase of knowledge and the end of error, because even human invention must have its day. We want that day to be prospered by divine Science and Christ-like reality. Midnight foretells the dawn. In the midst of darkness, the Magi detected the solitary star leading to the Messiahship of Truth. Is it true that Christ is always reappearing? Are we believing the wise people of today when they emit the light which heralds Truth’s eternal dawn and describe its radiance?
