Golden text: Galatians 3:24*

So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.

Esther 3:5-6

And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage to him, Haman was filled with fury. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.

Esther 4:15-17

Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” 17 Mordecai then went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him.

Esther 6:1-8, 10-12

On that night the king could not sleep. And he gave orders to bring the book of memorable deeds, the chronicles, and they were read before the king. And it was found written how Mordecai had told about Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, and who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. And the king said, “What honor or distinction has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” The king’s young men who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.” And the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him. And the king’s young men told him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.” So Haman came in, and the king said to him, “What should be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” And Haman said to himself, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?” And Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, let royal robes be brought, which the king has worn, and the horse that the king has ridden, and on whose head a royal crown is set.

10 Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry; take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Leave out nothing that you have mentioned.” 11 So Haman took the robes and the horse, and he dressed Mordecai and led him through the square of the city, proclaiming before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.” 12 Then Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered.

A selfish and narrow human mind may be unjust, but divine Mind is the immortal law of justice and mercy. It is as impossible for sinners to receive their full punishment on this side of the grave as it is for the righteous to receive their full reward. It is useless to think the wicked can gloat over their offences, die, and go to heaven. It is incorrect to think that Love is satisfied by giving us only stressful work, losses, cross-bearing, trials, and tribulations. God doesn’t mock us in return for our efforts at well doing.

Religious history repeats itself and shows that the just suffers for the unjust. Does God overlook the law of righteousness that destroys sinful thinking? No.

Meditation can’t change God’s law, but it can bring us into sync with immortal being. Prayer is not the mere habit of trying to persuade the divine Mind, as we would try to persuade a human being.

By attributing more and more intelligence to spirituality, and giving less and less power to physical laws and human beings, we promote wisdom and health. The divine Mind which forms the bud and blossom, will care for the human body even as it clothes the lily.[1] Do not let mortals interfere with God’s natural order of existence by thrusting in laws of mistaken human perceptions.

Bear in mind, the higher nature of a person is not controlled by the lower more baneful nature; if it were, the order of wisdom would be reversed. Our immature views of life hide eternal harmony and produce the problems of which we complain. Even though human beings believe in mortal laws—which by default causes people to disbelieve the Science of Mind—that believing does not make the mortal laws superior to the laws of Soul.

Mathew 5: 17-19

[Jesus said] “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Not clairvoyant reading or interpersonal communication, but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity.

Error of any kind can’t hide from the law of God.

Truth’s instructions are not theoretical and fragmentary, but are practical and open to new discoveries that reveal ongoing completion and law. And being practical and comprehensive, God’s laws are not deprived of their essential vitality.

We are properly self-governed only when we are guided rightly and governed by our Maker, divine Truth and Love. Our rights are invaded when the divine order is interfered with and the mental malpractitioner incurs the divine penalty for this crime.

When judging Christian Science, sanction only such methods as are demonstrable in Truth and known by their fruits. Classify other methods that suggest futile or backward behavior as did Paul in his epistle to the Galatians, when he wrote: “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Galatians 3:1-14

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

From the infinite One in divine Science comes one Principle and its infinite idea. From this infinite one Source comes spiritual rules, laws, and their demonstration.

Science doesn’t proceed from that which is relative and uncertain, as all truth proceeds from the divine Mind. Matter is not a lawgiver. Truth is not a law of matter and is not mortal. Spiritual Science comes from divine Mind and is the only means of rightly interpreting God, Spirit, substance. Science has a Godlike, not humanlike, origin. It is a divine affirmation, the Counselor guiding “into all truth.”[2]

Divine Science isn’t what we call the hard or soft sciences (e.g. chemistry, biology, physics, and psychology). The conditions of the hard and soft sciences are built on the false hypotheses that matter or the human mind is its own reality maker and lawgiver, whereas Spirit is the only reality and lawgiver. The might of divine Mind can’t be overruled by the sciences that are limited to competing forces. Good is natural and primary. It is not miraculous to itself.

The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to Spirit’s government of the universe and us. Business professionals, scholars, and ordinary people have found that divine Science increases their perseverance and mental powers. The knowledge of spiritual Science expands people’s perception of character, gives them alertness and the ability to be thorough and multitask usefully. The human mind, inspired with spiritual understanding, becomes more resilient and is capable of increased stamina. The human mind can escape somewhat from itself and won’t require so much sleep. Knowledge of the Science of being develops our dormant abilities and potential. Spiritual discernment opens the mind and we attain access to far-reaching and grand realms, we are elevated into our natural state of insightfulness and perspicacity.

Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God. Spiritual sense shows the supremacy of faith “accompanied by action”[3] over faith in words. Spiritual ideas are expressed in “new tongues,[4] and interpreted by the translation of the spiritual original into the language which human thought can comprehend.

Spiritual sense discerns the Principle and proof of the manifestation of God.
