Golden text: Psalms 16:5-7*

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.

Proverbs 19:20-29

Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.
21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
22 What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
and a poor man is better than a liar.
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life,
and whoever has it rests satisfied;
he will not be visited by harm.
24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish
and will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence;
reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
26 He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother
is a son who brings shame and reproach.
27 Cease to hear instruction, my son,
and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 A worthless witness mocks at justice,
and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.
29 Condemnation is ready for scoffers,
and beating for the backs of fools.

21st Century Science and Health**

Mind-science teaches mortals “Don’t get tired of helping others.”[1] It dissipates fatigue to do good deeds. In service to our Maker, generosity will not deprive us, likewise, holding back our wealth does not make us richer. Our strength is increased with our increased understanding of truth. Strength is not minimized by voicing truth. Caffeine and other related stimulants aren’t equal to truth when needing energy or inspiration.

Debra Lynne Katz, a professional clairvoyant reader, healer, and spiritual counselor, says in her book, You are Psychic: The Art of Clairvoyant Reading & Healing, “We are all energetically connected.” Katz also shares with readers the importance of not continuously expecting to be strengthened by other people’s energy, “The best energy, or fuel, for your body is your own.”[2] This is valuable advice, preparing human thought to take the next step of recognizing divine Spirit as the infinite source of divine strength and immortality. Human energy is mortal and claims separate spirits, whereas divine energy unites consciousness to God, the one immortal Spirit.

We are warned against being “full of formulas and programs and advice.”[3] If we are not secretly yearning and openly striving for what we ask, our prayers are vain repetitions. We don’t gain the omnipotent ear sooner by words than by thoughts. God knows our need before we do. If we cherish our hope honestly, silently, and humbly, we lessen the risk of overwhelming our real desires with a deluge of words. If our petitions are sincere and we work for what we ask, we are rewarded.

Acts 5:17-42

[T]he high priest rose up, and all who were with him (that is, the party of the Sadducees), and filled with jealousy 18 they arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, 20 “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.” 21 And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to teach.

Now when the high priest came, and those who were with him, they called together the council, all the senate of the people of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22 But when the officers came, they did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, 23 “We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them we found no one inside.” 24 Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to. 25 And someone came and told them, “Look! The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.” 26 Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

33 When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in honor by all the people, stood up and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you are about to do with these men. 36 For before these days Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After him Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some of the people after him. He too perished, and all who followed him were scattered. 38 So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, 40 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. 42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.

21st Century Science and Health

Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection.

In the medical field, objections would be raised if one doctor administered a drug to counteract the working of another doctor’s prescription. It is equally important in metaphysical practice that the minds which surround your patient should not act against your influence by continually expressing such opinions as may alarm or discourage—either by giving antagonistic advice or through unspoken thoughts resting on your patient. While it is certain that the divine Mind can remove any obstacle, still you need the ear of your auditor. It is not more difficult to make yourself heard mentally while others are thinking about your patients or conversing with them, if you understand divine Science—the oneness and the allness of divine Love; but it is well to be alone with God and the sick when treating disease.

To prevent or to cure cancer, leukemia, and hereditary diseases, you must destroy the belief in these ills and the false faith in the possibility of their development and transmission. The patient may tell you that they have tuberculosis and that their parents or distant ancestors believed the same. Human mind, not its situation, triggers this conclusion and its results. You will have tuberculosis, just so long as you believe it to be an excuse, or ineradicable.

If the case to be mentally treated is tuberculosis, take up the leading points (according to belief) included in this disease. Show that it is not inherited or transmittable. Point out that coughing, hemorrhaging, and fatigue are beliefs, images of human thought superimposed upon the body. Show that false images are not the truth of being. Bogus imprints should be treated as error and put out of thought. Then these ills will disappear.

Hebrews 6:1-10

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. 10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

21st Century Science and Health

We acknowledge Christ Jesus as the Way-shower and his atonement as the evidence of divine healing Love, unfolding our unity with God. We acknowledge that our salvation is through Christ, Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.

Through repentance, spiritual baptism, and reformation, humanity advances past beliefs and false individuality. It is only a question of time when “they will all know me [God], from the least of them to the greatest.”[4]

Do not join in a conspiracy against yourself. Continue to recognize the awful unreality by which the human mind is deceived. Repent, think differently, abandon the unnatural and you can fully understand the unreality of that which argues against the infinite.

Effective repentance reforms thinking and enables human beings to do the will of wisdom. We feel secure in God’s goodness when we try to demonstrate, even a little bit at a time, the divine Principle of the teachings and practice of the Teacher.

Love offers full salvation from sin, sickness, and death. Sin will submit to the Science of Christ when, in place of customs and routines, the power of God is understood and demonstrated in the healing of human beings both mind and body.
