Golden text: Genesis 2: 1-2*

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

I Chronicles 17: 1-4, 10-11

Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.” And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”

But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: It is not you who will build me a house to dwell in.

10Moreover, I declare to you that the Lord will build you a house. 11 When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom

The finite must yield to the infinite. Advancing to a higher plane of action, consciousness moves from the limited sense to the unlimited, from the scholastic to the inspirational, and from the mortal to the immortal. All things are created spiritually.

If religious people accept church salaries and build churches, yet turn away the poor and stranger, they are shutting the door on progress. Let the stories of Jesus’ birth in a manger and death on a cross, deflate human arrogance and egotism. Gratification of the physical senses will numb the right hand and cause the left to let go of its grasp on the divine.

The material theories of creation provide nothing to build on, and are unable to support views of creation as revealed by infinite Mind.

The divine Principle, or Spirit, comprehends and expresses all, and all must therefore be as complete as the divine Principle is complete. Nothing is new to Spirit. Nothing can be novel to eternal Mind, the author of all things, who from all eternity knows His own ideas. Love is satisfied with Her work.

Matthew 13: 47-54

[Jesus said,] “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” 52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?

Isn’t it a species of unbelief to believe that so great a work as the Messiah’s was done for himself or for God? God did not need Jesus’ example to preserve the eternal harmony, however human beings did and Jesus pointed the way. Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. Do not imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number of people or for a particular period in time, since to all humankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.

Mechanical prayers or rituals are not progressive. Prayer is a privilege, not to be taken for granted or abused. Seeking Truth doesn’t include paying someone else to do your praying for you.

Experience teaches us that we do not always receive the answers we ask for in prayer. Some misunderstanding as to the source and means of all goodness and blessedness keeps us from receiving credible answers. The Scriptures say: “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”[1] What we desire and what we ask for is not always the best to receive; however, infinite Love knows what to grant. Do you ask Soul to remove sin’s self-punishment? Then “you ask in quite the wrong spirit.”[2] Without punishment, sin would multiply.

John 10:22-27

At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Many theories relative to God and creation do not make a lovable God or harmonious children. The beliefs we commonly entertain about happiness and life actually lack evidence of permanency. The unspoiled claims of harmonious and eternal being are discovered only in divine Science.

Divine Science honors God as no other theory and it does this in the way of Soul’s appointing, by doing many wonderful works through the divine name and nature. All persons must fulfill their own mission without timidity and without putting on a show. Governed by our Maker, we can have no other Mind. Secure on the Evangelist’s statement that “all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made,”[3] we can triumph over sin, sickness, and loss.

Christianity will never be based on a divine Principle and so found to be unerring, until its absolute Science is reached. Spiritual goals are successfully achieved when our work is done unselfishly and as a result, arrogance, prejudice, bigotry, and envy cannot wash away its foundation, for it is built on the rock, Truth.

To hold yourself superior to negativity, because God made you superior to it and governs us, is true wisdom. To fear wrongdoing is to misunderstand the power of Love and the divine Science of being in our relation to God—to doubt and distrust Soul’s omnipotent care. To hold yourself superior to downward spiraling behaviors is equally wise and is in accordance with divine Science. To fear them is impossible when you fully understand God and know that disharmony is no part of Life’s existence.

I Corinthians 3:1-9

But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human?

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Surrounded by imperfection, perfection is seen and acknowledged only by degrees. People slowly work toward perfection. How long it must be before we arrive at the demonstration of scientific being, no person knows—not even “the son, but only the Father.”[4] The false claim of error continues its delusions until the goal of goodness is steadfastly earned and won.

People with mental work before them have no time for gossip about false law or testimony. To reconstruct timid justice and place the fact above the falsehood, is the work of time.

Self-worship is denser than a solid body. In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the clotted mass of error. Let us work to bankrupt self-will, self-justification, and self-worship. Don’t invest in mortality with its errors that compete against spirituality.

Human thinking doesn’t need to demand more and more attention as it accelerates toward self-destruction. Let’s take an abscess. The sore doesn’t need to become more painful before the pus is absorbed or drained. Or, in the case of a fever, the fever doesn’t need to become severe or critical before it ends.

Fear can be so great at certain times that human thought will automatically be pushed into a new path. If thought takes the path of death, mortals wake to the knowledge of two facts: (1) they are not dead; (2) they entered a different or interim belief, therefore, people who have been termed “clinically dead” come back with stories to tell. Truth works out the nothingness of error in just these ways. Sickness, as well as sin, is an error that Christ, Truth, alone can destroy.

God, good, being ever-present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present.

Our church is built on the divine Principle, Love. We can unite with this church only as we are newborn of Spirit.

The universe of Spirit reflects the powerful creativity of the divine Principle or Life, which reproduces the multitudinous forms of Mind and governs the increase of multifaceted spiritual being. The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagating power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind which includes all. A world with mindlessness implies a human mortal mind as creator. The scientific divine creation declares immortal Mind and the universe created by God.

Infinite Mind reveals and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity. This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout Spirit’s entire work including the immortality of spiritual being and the universe. Creation is always appearing and must always continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.
