Subject: New house
Golden text: Haggai 2:9*
The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’”
Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. 3 So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” 4 But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

Teach your students the omnipotence of Truth, which illustrates the impotence of error. The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and aims the feet in the true path—the path which leads to “a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
7 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” 28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29 And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him.

Good compels us to solve the problem of being. Commitment to good increases our dependence on a spiritual God and shows a paramount necessity to be responsible to Truth and Love. Divine Science does not claim the perfection of God but ascribes to God the entire glory.
What evidence of Soul or of immortality do you have within mortality? Even natural science teaches that no one has ever seen Spirit or Soul leaving or entering a body. What warrants the theory of an indwelling spirit, except the argument of human sentiment? What would be thought of the hypothesis that a house was inhabited by a certain class of persons, when no such persons were ever seen going into or coming out of the house? Who can see a soul in the body?
The illusive evidence of physical sense certainly differs from the testimony of Spirit. Physical sense lifts its voice with the arrogance of reality and boasts: I am completely dishonest and people don’t know it. I can commit adultery, cheat, lie, steal, and murder. I evade detection by pretending to be a victim. My tendency is irrational, my feelings are deceitful, and my purpose is fraudulent, but I aim to make my short span of life one big fling. Resistance to spirituality is fantastic! How it succeeds where the good purpose waits! The world is my territory. I am popular, surrounded by materialism and consumerism. However, a reality check, an accident, or the law of God may at any moment annihilate my peace, for all my fancied joys are fatal. Like bursting lava, I increase but to my own despair because the over-rated mortal life is a consuming fire.
The testimony of Spirit, Soul, maintains: I am Spirit. Individuals, whose perceptions are spiritual are my likeness, reflecting the infinite understanding, for I am Infinity. The beauty of holiness, the completion of being, and imperishable glory—all are Mine, for I am God. I give spirituality, for I am Truth. I include and impart all happiness, for I am Love. I give life, without beginning and without end, for I am Life. I am supreme. I am the unlimited source of good ideas, for I am Mind. I am the substance of all, because “I AM WHO I AM.”
The breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, deficit and depression, sin, sickness, and death, assuming new phases until their nothingness appears. These disturbances will continue until the end of error when all disorder will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth.
Mortal error will vanish in a moral reaction. The reaction of mental turmoil has begun and will continue until all errors of belief yield to understanding. Belief is changeable, but spiritual understanding is changeless.
As changeable knowledge diminishes and spiritual understanding increases, real objects will be comprehended mentally instead of materially. As this consummation draws closer, those who have shaped their course in accordance with divine Science will endure to the end.
38 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Jesus illustrated the power of divine Science to heal human minds and bodies. But this power was lost sight of and must again be spiritually discerned, taught, and demonstrated as commanded by Truth, with “accompanying signs.” Its Science must be understood by as many as believe on Christ and spiritually comprehend Truth.
The everlasting I AM isn’t bound or compressed within the narrow limits of physical humanity, nor can Spirit be correctly understood through mortal concepts. The precise form of God must be of small importance in comparison with the sublime questions: What is infinite Mind? What is divine Love? What is metaphysical Truth?
Immortal ideas are perfectly real and tangible to spiritual consciousness, plus they have the advantage over the objects and thoughts of limited senses because they are good and eternal.
The testimony of human perceptions is neither absolute nor divine. I therefore stand unreservedly on the teachings of Jesus, of his apostles, of the prophets, and on the testimony of the Science of Mind. There are no other foundations. All other systems—systems based wholly or partly on knowledge gained through the physical senses—are reeds swayed by the wind, not houses built on the rock.
Divine Science rejects the following theories: (1) that all is matter or human mind; (2) that matter or the human mind originates in divine Mind and is as real as Mind, possessing intelligence and life. The first theory, that matter is everything, is about as illogical as the second, that Mind and matter coexist and cooperate. One only of the following statements can be true: (1) that everything is human mind; (2) that everything is divine Mind. Which one is it?
Human mind and divine Mind are opposites. One is contrary to the other in its very nature and essence, consequently, they both can’t be real. Only by understanding that there is but one power—not two powers—are scientific and logical conclusions reached. We must continue to admit that spiritual intelligence is apart from mortal beings and measurable energy. Spiritual intelligence is expressing and controlling the universe. Spiritual intelligence is synonymous with the eternal Mind or divine Principle, Love.
Revelation 21:3, 6-7 (The Message)*
I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: “Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women!
6 Then he said, “It’s happened. I’m A to Z. I’m the Beginning, I’m the Conclusion. From Water-of-Life Well I give freely to the thirsty. Conquerors inherit all this. I’ll be God to them, they’ll be sons and daughters to me.

Human mind, acting from the basis of sensation in matter, is susceptible to suggestions. This so-called mind from which comes all evil, contradicts itself and must finally yield to eternal Truth as expressed in Science. In proportion to our understanding of Christian Science, we are freed from the suggestions of physical inheritance or mind in illusive matter. We disarm sin of its imaginary power as we scientifically understand the status of spiritual being.
Unaware of the methods and the basis of metaphysical healing, you may attempt to unite it with hypnotism, brain manipulation, or psychics. However, none of these methods benefit metaphysical healing.
Whoever reaches the understanding of divine Science in its proper significance will perform the sudden cures of which it is capable. Nevertheless, this can be done only by facing and overcoming fears and mistaken thoughts, and following divine Spirit in our everyday experiences.
Church should be made “a house of prayer for all nations,” where humility and divine Science are welcome.
A vital religion allows us to understand and share the glory of eternal life.
Mind is the grand revelator and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name.
The intuitive sense of Mind-power reinforces the glory of Mind. Nearness, not distance, lends delight to this view.
Love’s discipline is nourishing. As Love corrects us we advance toward justice, peace, and purity, which are milestones of Science. Beholding the infinite tasks of truth, we pause—wait on God. Then we make every effort to improve for the better. Spiritualized thought feels creative, free, and inspired, as if touching divine glory.
