Subject: Choose life
Golden text: Psalms 68:11-12*
The Lord gives the word; the women who announce the news are a great host: “The kings of the armies—they flee, they flee!”
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

The evidence of our spirituality will become more apparent, as habituated thinking is given up, and the unending facts of being are admitted.
Every law of physics or the body supposed to govern people, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God. Unaware of our God-given rights, we allow unjust decisions and make excuses for imperfection. Our educational systems are biased, expounding homogeny and marketing a resignation to poor choices. Become aware metaphysically.
We must begin however with more simple demonstrations of control and the sooner we begin the better. The final demonstration takes time for its accomplishment. When walking, we are guided by the eye. We look before our feet and if we are wise, we look beyond a single step in the line of spiritual advancement.
Sometimes the human mind uses one error to medicine another error. Forced to choose between two difficulties, the human mind takes the lesser problem to relieve the greater. For example, to relieve an uncomfortable eye condition, the human mind may choose eye-drops, temporarily quieting the suffering but not curing it. Why admit that mind influences the body somewhat, yet act as though the organs, hormones, nerves, bones, etc., outweigh the power of Spirit? Controlled by this kind of thinking, people unthinkingly repeat learned reactions. They lean on the artificial or the unintelligent, never discerning how this deprives them of the available superiority of divine Mind. The body is not controlled scientifically by a negative mind.
If human beings would properly guard against human mind, the brood of evils which infest it would be cleared out. We must begin with the human mind and empty out its negativity and self-delusion, or negativity and self-delusion will never cease. The conventional human systems disappoint the weary searcher who is looking for a divine theology, a theology adequate to teach above human theology.
Sin and disease are thought before they are made manifest, whether thought by you or someone else. You must control evil thoughts in the first instance or they will control you in the second. Jesus declared that to look with desire on forbidden objects was to break a moral precept. He laid great stress on watching the action of the human mind, unseen to the senses.
Evil thoughts and aims reach no further and do no more harm than one’s thinking permits. Lusts and malicious purposes can’t move around like wandering pollen from one human mind to another if virtue and truth build a strong defense. It is important to be aware of your mental environment so as not to be a naive receptor of evil thoughts. You would rather choose a doctor who has the flu to treat you than be treated mentally by a metaphysician who isn’t obeying the requirements of divine Science.
“As in Adam [error] all die, so in Christ [Truth] all will be made alive.” Mortality is a myth, spirituality is real. To imagine that spirit is divisible and trapped, to be set free in the future, is mortal belief. Spirit, God is not metamorphic, but is “the same yesterday and today and forever.” If Mind, God, creates error, then it must exist in divine Truth, and errors assumptions would overthrow the perfection of God.
Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

I advise students to be charitable and kind, not only toward differing forms of religion and medicine, but to the very people who hold these differing opinions. Let us be faithful in pointing the way through Christ as we understand it, but let us also be careful always to “stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment.” Never condemn rashly. “If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also,” because if you refrain from retaliation, you will be struck again. If ecclesiastical sects or medical schools turn a deaf ear to the teachings of divine Science, then part from these opponents as did Abraham when he parted from Lot, and say in your heart: “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.” Spiritual beings, or God’s children in divine Science, are one harmonious family; but the children of human beings are discordant and oftentimes fake.
Teachers must make clear to students the Science of healing, especially the moral and ethical principles—that all is Mind and we align to the will of good. Teachers must thoroughly prepare students to defend themselves against sin and the attacks of the would-be mental assassin, who attempts to kill morally and physically. No hypothesis as to the existence of another power should interject a doubt or fear to hinder the demonstration of divine Science. Teachers do not indoctrinate, but shed light on the student’s hidden energies and capabilities for good.
Teach the great possibilities of man and woman equipped with divine Science. Enlighten the student’s spiritual understanding and demonstration of Truth.
What we call material has no life to lose, and Spirit never dies. Unstable concepts did not originate in God and are not absolute; therefore, not substantial or intelligent. Collaboration between human imprints and Spirit would ignore omnipresent and omnipotent Mind. The starting-point of divine Science is God; Spirit is All-in-all and there is no other might nor Mind. The premise of Science is Love and that Mind is divine Principle.
Proverbs 9: 1-6
Wisdom has built her house;
she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her young women to call
from the highest places in the town,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
To him who lacks sense she says,
5 “Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways, and live,
and walk in the way of insight.”
John 1: 1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Grammars usually recognize a neuter gender, neither male nor female. God determines the gender of Soul’s ideas. Gender is mental, not physical. The seed within itself is the pure thought emanating from divine Mind. The intelligent individual idea, ever-ascending, unfolds the infinitude of Love.
The word man has a generic meaning, signifying the one perfect nature of person. The term is unpolluted by human concepts of biological gender. Research into the word man, finds a connection to the root *men—“to think” (cognate to mind), as contrasted to todays common use of the word man, defined as human males, which narrows and weakens the original meaning. Biblical literalism attempts to reduce Deity to anthropomorphism. The word anthropomorphic is derived from two Greek words, signifying human and shape, but God has no physical anatomy, no fleshly organs or negative human passions. Fortunately, spiritual interpretation allows us to recapture the broader perspective. The life-giving quality of Spirit is Mind, not human mind. The ideal man corresponds to creation, to intelligence and Truth. The ideal woman corresponds to Life and Love. In divine Science, we have not as much authority to consider God male as we have to consider God female, for Love imparts the clearest idea of Deity.
In the late 20th century, society began using the words person or people as a gender-neutral alternative to man. Person is defined as a human being or individual. One train of thought goes from human being, to a physical mortal being. Another train of thought, keeping in the metaphysical track, goes from human being, to humane being, to spiritual being or individual. A human being is of the species Homo sapiens (Lat. Sapiens, to be wise, rational). The term human is identified with the word humane, indicating a humane person. Some Bible versions, in the first chapter of Genesis, say God created “human beings,” not interpreted to mean self-centered egotistical mortals, but a humane person.
“A person is defined by philosophers as a being who is in possession of a range of psychological capacities that are regarded as both necessary and sufficient to fulfill the requirements of personhood. These are, in general, that it is capable of reasoning, that it is self-conscious, and that is has an identity that persists through time.”
Reader, keep in mind, that human terminology and definitions change, but we have the capacity to reason correctly, adjust, and identify with the spiritual meaning. For example, referring back to Genesis chapter one, we could contemplate this interpretation: So Mind created consciousness in his own image, reflecting Mind, he created them male and female.
The world believes in many persons, but if God is personal, there is only one person, because there is only one God. Soul’s personality can only be reflected, not sent from one person to another. God has countless ideas, and they all have one Principle and parentage. The only proper symbol of God as person is Mind’s infinite ideal. What is this ideal? Who will behold it? This ideal is God’s own image, spiritual and infinite. Eternity can never reveal the whole of God, since there is no limit to its infinite reflections.
In the Gospel of John, it is declared that all things were made through the Word of God, “without him [the logos, or word] was not anything made that was made.” Everything good or worthy, God made. Spirit did not make whatever is worthless or destructive and therefore we can prove its unreality. In the Science of Genesis, we read that Mind saw everything “and it was very good.”
