Subject: Science of Being
Golden text: Proverbs 16:17*
The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life.
“In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath,
in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned,
and travelers kept to the byways.
7 The villagers ceased in Israel;
they ceased to be until I arose;
I, Deborah, arose as a mother in Israel.
8 When new gods were chosen,
then war was in the gates.
Was shield or spear to be seen
among forty thousand in Israel?
9 My heart goes out to the commanders of Israel
who offered themselves willingly among the people.
Bless the Lord.

What the physical senses tell us often reverses or rearranges the real Science of being and assigns seeming authority to sin, sickness, and death. But the great facts of Life rightly understood, defeat this triad of errors, contradict their false witnesses, and reveal the power of heaven—the actual authority of harmony on earth. The demonstrations of Jesus exposed pragmatically the pattern of harmony. So why are we trained to believe that the human mind is secondary to mortal body and that certain sections of matter, such as brain and nerves, are put in charge of pain and pleasure? Material elements can’t report to mind the status of happiness or misery.
Any conclusion pro or con, deduced from mortal consciousness leads to legitimizing the testimony of physical senses and disease. But we can reverse the testimony of physical senses.
There are many proofs of the illusion of physical sense. For example, when driving on the highway, the paved road ahead sometimes appears to be covered with water. The barometer points to fair weather during drenching rain. What about the body? Physical senses tell us the body is solid, but the body isn’t solid. Cosmic rays, neutrinos, radio and TV waves are zinging through the body as if it is transparent. These examples of illusive appearances could go on. Life teaches us to correct what physical senses and human imprints claim as fact.
NASA changed the world view when launching into outer space. Setbacks happened, but courage set the precedence. Technology is also changing our world views. What’s happening? We are outgrowing philosophies based on what physical senses say. The physical law of gravity can’t define us. Exploration, thought expansion, bravery, invention, and open-mindedness, continues.
Albert Einstein recognized and made public the general theory of relativity. Time, space, and mass are relative, or in other words uncertain, but since they’ve been better identified, facts are more correctly studied and scientific corrections and modifications continue.
According to both medical knowledge and individual experience, a drug may eventually lose its power and do no more for patients. Diseases become drug resistant. Feel-good concoctions fail to inspire the unsuspecting minds, and patients cease to improve. These lessons are useful. They should naturally and genuinely change our basis from physical science to divine Science, from error to Truth, from human mind to Mind.
Here are four serious mistakes: Supposing that sin is forgiven before the sin is abandoned; that happiness is genuine when connected to sin; that death of the body frees us from anything unspiritual; and that God will forgive a sin without destroying it.
The moral and spiritual facts of health whispered into thought, produce very direct and marked effects on the body. It stands to reason that a physical diagnosis of disease tends to induce disease, since both diagnosis and disease are in human mind.
Like a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard
is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
10 Like an archer who wounds everyone
is one who hires a passing fool or drunkard.
11 Like a dog that returns to his vomit
is a fool who repeats his folly.
12 Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road!
There is a lion in the streets!”
14 As a door turns on its hinges,
so does a sluggard on his bed.
15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
than seven men who can answer sensibly.

If human beings would properly guard against human mind, the brood of evils which infest it would be cleared out. We must begin with the human mind and empty out its negativity and self-delusion, or negativity and self-delusion will never cease. The conventional human systems disappoint the weary searcher who is looking for a divine theology, a theology adequate to teach above human theology.
Simply asking that we may love God will never make us love Spirit. Each day we must express spiritual awareness, and persevere to align our thoughts and actions with the divine character. Then we are made new, until we wake in Love’s likeness. The Science of Christianity is experienced while we mirror the divine nature, but in a wicked world goodness will “be spoken of as evil.”
Audible prayers can never do the works of spiritual understanding. Spiritual understanding regenerates. Awareness, silent heartfelt prayers, and sincere obedience to divine Love clear the road for us to follow Jesus’ example. Wordy prayers, superstition, and dogma, interrupt the communications of Love and disguise religion in human forms. Whatever defaces worship is an obstacle to spiritual progress and keeps us from demonstrating our power over error.
Spiritual Science presents unfoldment, not accumulation. Mind-science presents revelation, not big bang. There is no growth from material molecule to mind. Creation is the impartation of divine Mind. As human generation ceases, the unbroken links of eternal harmonious being will be discerned and person, not of the mortal flesh, but coexistent with God, will appear.
[Jesus] said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

Any dishonesty in your theory and practice betrays a gross unawareness of the method of the Truth-cure. Science makes no concessions to persons or opinions. We must live in the morale of truth or we cannot illustrate the divine Principle. So long as fluctuating substance is the basis of practice, illness cannot be efficaciously treated by the divine mental process. Truth does the work and you must both understand and live up to the divine Principle of your demonstration.
Teaching or practicing in the name of Truth, but contrary to its spirit or rule, is most dangerous quackery. Strict adherence to the divine Principle and rules of the scientific method has secured the only success of the students of divine Science. Only this on-going integrity is worthy of prominence in the community, worthy of a reputation experimentally justified by the people’s efforts. People who affirm that there is more than one Principle and method of demonstrating divine Science are mistaken, whether they do so ignorantly or intentionally. Whoever believes in more than one Principle, automatically separate themselves from the true conception of spiritual scientific healing and its possible manifestation.
When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” 16 But [Jesus] said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. 17 And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ 18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’ 19 And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’ 20 And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21 So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ 22 And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’”

The body may object to the attitude that pays little attention to food. The sinner squirms when seeing that the system taught in this book requires obedience to the demands of God. The narrow-minded intellect rankles by the constant need to be responsible to infinite Mind. The licentious disposition is discouraged over its meager spiritual prospects. When the people are invited to the wedding banquet, the excuses come. One person has a machine to fix, others have errands to run or businesses to attend, and therefore they can’t approve and accept.
It is vain to speak of divine Science dishonestly when you can demonstrate the realness of Science by destroying disorder. It is unwise to doubt if reality is in perfect harmony with God, divine Principle.
Science, when understood and demonstrated, will destroy disorder. From the premise that God is omnipotent, comes the conclusion that good has all-power. Divine Science, properly understood, disengages material beliefs from the human mind. However, to make room for truth, you must reject and remove beliefs that war against spiritual facts. You can’t add to a glass already full. The minds filled with faith in physical regiments or societal castes, make it difficult to inculcate a grain of faith in God or an inkling of Spirit’s ability to make the body harmonious.
Study metaphysics and look deep into realism, instead of only accepting the superficial, illusive sense of things. Be elevated in thought in every situation. Can we gather peaches from a pine tree or learn from disorder the order of being? Continue to recognize the nothingness of illusions—stay on the path Science is walking—and the ingrained illusions of human beings will be replaced with reality.
Millions of unprejudiced minds are waiting and looking for rest and drink. They are simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers thirsty in the desert.
We must be willing to surrender mortal thoughts that we may walk securely on the only practical road to immortality.
