Golden text: Hebrews 6:1*
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God.
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Human mind and body are one. Neither exists without the other, and both must be replaced by spiritual Mind. A material body is an embodied concept of human mind. This mortal mind builds its own superstructure of which the fleshly body is the denser portion. From first to last, the body is a sensuous mythical human concept.
It should not seem supernatural that mind, without the aid of hands, can move or alter an object when we already know that it is mind-power which moves both the object and hand. Studies in parapsychology and psychokinetic abilities basically confirm the human mind’s control over its substratum, called matter.
Nothing is more antagonistic to divine Science than a blind belief without understanding, for such belief hides Truth and builds on error.
As we become better acquainted with the Science of being, we are better able to communicate with the divine Mind. Spiritual knowledge not only allows people to foresee and foretell events which concern the universal welfare, but it also inspires people divinely to reach the range of unfettered Mind, Spirit.
To understand incorporeal Mind is to perceive that Mind is infinite. Mind is not bound by physicality. Mind is not dependent on the fleshly ear and eye for sound or sight. Mind is not contingent on corporeal muscles and bones for movement. This perception of boundless Mind extends toward Mind-science and toward a perception of our true nature and existence, which does not include material personalities. Without material personalities or spirits, there is no basis upon which to build psychics or spiritualism.
This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29 Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. 30 Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive. 31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. 32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

The human mind always tells the body what to do. Quite often the body goes through a motion so often that after a while the movement appears to be involuntary. Human mind tells the heart valves to open and close as directly as it tells the hand to wave hello. Anatomy admits that human-will waves the hand, but it doesn’t see human mind directing the heart.
We say, “My hand did it.” What is this my but human mind, the cause of all mortal action. All voluntary and involuntary action of the mortal body is governed by mortal mind, not by chemicals or electricity. There is no involuntary action. The divine Mind includes all action and will, and in Science we are governed by this Mind. The human mind tries to classify action as either voluntary and involuntary and suffers from the attempt.
All we correctly know of Spirit comes from God, divine Principle, and is learned through Truth and divine Science.
Genesis 20: 1-7
Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar, 2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her. 3 But God came to Abimelek in a dream one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.” 4 Now Abimelek had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation? 5 Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister,’ and didn’t she also say, ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands.” 6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her. 7 Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live.

Human beings develop their own bodies or make them sick according to how they influence them through mortal mind. To know whether this development is produced consciously or unconsciously is of less importance than knowledge of the fact. The skills of the gymnast prove that latent mental fears are subdued in thought. The commitment of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible. Exceptions only confirm this rule, proving that failure is occasioned by a strong faith in failure.
If athletes believed it impossible to accomplish record-breaking feats, they could never do it. Their belief that they can achieve something spectacular gives their thought forces, called muscles, the flexibility and power which the unscientific might attribute to adrenaline or genes. Fear must disappear before the power of putting resolve into action can appear.
The human mind directs internal organs as well as the arm. Think about it, when human mind quits the body, the heart becomes as inactive as the arm.
Anatomy and physiology require nerves to tell the mind to move the muscles. But what does anatomy say when the muscle cramps? Did nerves stop talking to the muscle? Did human mind tell it to constrict? Can muscles, brain, blood, and nerves rebel against mind in one instance and not in another? Can muscles spasm, despite a mental protest?
Unless muscles are self-acting at all times, they never are—never are capable of acting contrary to mental direction.
Muscles are not self-acting. If mind does not move the muscles, they are motionless. Hence the great fact that Mind alone enlarges and empowers through its mandate—by reason of its demand for, and supply of, power. Not because of exercise, but by reason of the weight-lifters faith in exercise do the muscles become stronger.
It is mortal mind which moves is substratum, matter. Movements come from the will of human belief and are neither scientific nor rational. Mortal mind produces paranormal table-tipping as certainly as it produces normal table-setting. Although the paranormal action is believed to occur because of spirits or electricity, both actions lead to believing mind and matter cooperate invisibly and visibly and that matter has autonomy.
Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed. 6 “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. 9 “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.

Neither philosophy nor skepticism can hinder the movement of Science which is ever revealing the supremacy of Mind. The intuitive sense of Mind-power reinforces the glory of Mind. Nearness, not distance, lends delight to this view.
Humanity moves toward good or evil as time passes. If mortals are not progressive, past failures will be repeated until all wrong work is erased or corrected. If there is any satisfaction in wrongdoing, we must learn to loathe it. If we are now content with spiritual idleness, we must become dissatisfied with it. Remember that humankind must sooner or later, either by suffering or by Science, be convinced of the error that is to be overcome.
A human judge sometimes remits the penalty the comes with a broken law, but this may not be a moral benefit to the criminal. At best, it only saves the criminal from one form of punishment. The moral law, which has the right to acquit or condemn, always demands restitution before human beings can “move up to a better place.” Penalties compel progress.
While divine Principle never pardons mistakes until they are corrected, mere legal pardon leaves the offender free to repeat the offense. Sometimes the offender has suffered, and made others suffer so much, that they don’t want to repeat the mistake. Truth doesn’t excuse error but wipes it out in the most effectual manner. Jesus suffered, not to annul the divine sentence for other people’s sin, but because sin inevitably hurts others.
Repetitious prayers bring to mortals what they believe will occur. We know a desire for holiness is necessary to gain holiness, but if we desire holiness above all else, we will sacrifice everything for it. We must be willing to surrender mortal thoughts that we may walk securely on the only practical road to immortality. Prayer can’t change the unalterable Truth, nor can prayer alone give us an understanding of Truth. Prayer, attached to a sincere intent to know and do God’s will, brings us into all Truth. Prayer is best expressed in thought and in life.
The effort to unlearn false perceptions includes forfeiting those views completely. Then error will be submissive to Truth. The divine method of becoming responsible for every thought and action involves unwinding our snarls and learning from experience how to divide between the human and the spiritual.
The finite must yield to the infinite. Advancing to a higher plane of action, consciousness moves from the limited sense to the unlimited, from the scholastic to the inspirational, and from the mortal to the immortal. All things are created spiritually. Mind, not isolatable energy, is the creator. Love, the divine Principle, is Father-Mother of the universe and us.
