Subject: Complacency canceled
Golden text: II Peter 3: 17-18*
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
Woe to you who are complacent in Zion,
and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria,
you notable men of the foremost nation,
to whom the people of Israel come!
2 Go to Kalneh and look at it;
go from there to great Hamath,
and then go down to Gath in Philistia.
Are they better off than your two kingdoms?
Is their land larger than yours?

To assume that there are no claims of evil and yet to indulge them, is a moral offence. Close-mindedness and self-righteousness clamp onto iniquity. When the tax collector’s confession went out to the great heart of Love, it won his humble desire. Evil which prevails in the body’s biology but which the heart condemns, has no foundation. Remember though, if evil is not condemned or not denied, it is nurtured. Under such circumstances, to say that there is no evil is an evil in itself. When it is necessary to correct a lie with the truth, do so. Evasion of Truth cripples integrity and sweeps you off the mountaintop.
Repetitious prayers bring to mortals what they believe will occur. We know a desire for holiness is necessary to gain holiness, but if we desire holiness above all else, we will sacrifice everything for it. We must be willing to surrender mortal thoughts that we may walk securely on the only practical road to immortality.
Amos 6: 3-7
You put off the day of disaster
and bring near a reign of terror.
4 You lie on beds adorned with ivory
and lounge on your couches.
You dine on choice lambs
and fattened calves.
5 You strum away on your harps like David
and improvise on musical instruments.
6 You drink wine by the bowlful
and use the finest lotions,
but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.
7 Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile;
your feasting and lounging will end.

The mild forms of suggestion are disappearing and its aggressive features are coming to the front. The mechanism of crime, hidden in the dark recesses of mortal thought, is every hour producing more complicated and subtle confusion. So inconceivable are the present methods of the human mind’s influences that they trick people into indolence and produce the very apathy on the subjects which the criminal desires. The power of suggestion, with its many different disguises such as herd mentality and the adoption of unoriginal thinking, causes people to make mistakes throughout the thought process.
The substance of Truth not only banishes temporal evidence with spiritual evidence, but also removes the stench of vile traits.
The physical senses cannot secure proof of God. Spirit isn’t tactile to flesh. Spirit isn’t seen through the physical eye, isn’t heard through the ear, isn’t tasted or smelled by means of technology. Despite their sophistication our physical senses and technology are quite pathetic, unable to detect microscopic particles which are only known by the effects commonly attributed to them.
Make the effort to banish all thoughts of disease and sin and of other beliefs connected to mortality. Our spirituality has an indestructible life. It is the mortal thinking which makes the body disordered and diseased in proportion as spiritual unawareness, fear, or human-will governs us.
Amos 6:8-11, 14
The Sovereign Lord has sworn by himself—the Lord God Almighty declares:
“I abhor the pride of Jacob
and detest his fortresses;
I will deliver up the city
and everything in it.”
9 If ten people are left in one house, they too will die. 10 And if the relative who comes to carry the bodies out of the house to burn them asks anyone who might be hiding there, “Is anyone else with you?” and he says, “No,” then he will go on to say, “Hush! We must not mention the name of the Lord.”
11 For the Lord has given the command,
and he will smash the great house into pieces
and the small house into bits.
14For the Lord God Almighty declares,
“I will stir up a nation against you, Israel,
that will oppress you all the way
from Lebo Hamath to the valley of the Arabah.”

Sin is the image of the beast to be wiped out through mental improvement. It can be an agonizing ordeal. Don’t fall into the moral foolishness that rushes around chaotically, makes annoying demands, or loud complaints. We can become secure in civility and goodness.
Not understanding the cause or approach of disease is no argument against the mental origin of disease. You confess to an ignorance of the future and an inability to preserve your own existence, and as a result, this thinking helps rather than hinders disease. Such a mindset induces sickness. It is like walking in the darkness on a high narrow ledge. You cannot stop suspecting danger, so your steps are insecure because of fear. We must be aware of mental cause and effect.
Universal salvation rests on spiritual improvement and proof, and is unattainable without them. Heaven is not a locality, but is a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal because sin is not there. God’s person is found having no self-righteousness, but is in possession of “the mind of the Lord”
Spirituality causes people to turn naturally from material wave/particles to eternal Spirit, as the flower turns from darkness to light. People then secure those things which “no eye has seen, no ear has heard.”
The reality and immortality of spiritual senses are in Spirit and understanding—hence their permanence. Spirit’s senses don’t involve themselves with fluctuating entities and energies. If the body’s physical senses were the medium through which to understand God, then paralysis, disabilities, blindness, and deafness would place people in terrible situations, “Without hope and without God in the world.” These calamities however often drive human beings to seek and find a more secure and meaningful sense of happiness and existence in Spirit.
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”
14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.

The would-be healer is obligated not to bring hypocrisy, false hopes, inhumanity, or bad habits into the patient’s environment. If these traits were present, the environment would be converted into a “den of robbers.” The un-Christ-like practitioner does not give to mind or body the joy and strength of Truth. Vanity and negativity desecrate the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the patient’s spiritual power to resuscitate themselves is damaged. The poor suffering heart needs its spiritual nutriment, such as peace, patience in distress, honesty, and a priceless sense of the dear Father-Mother’s loving-kindness.
Arrogance and complacency denied Jesus “his rights before the Most High,”
The physician who lacks empathy for humanity is deficient in goodwill.
To cure a patient, the practitioner must first dismiss their own moral evils. Purification allows the practitioner to attain the spiritual freedom and ability to drive physical evils out of the patient. Healing will not radiate from someone who is so spiritually unproductive that they are unable to give drink to the thirsty or reach the patient’s thought. Mental poverty alienates faith and understanding.
If the reader of this book observes a great stir throughout their system, and certain moral and physical symptoms seem aggravated, these indications are favorable. Continue to read, and the book will become the physician, moderating the anxiety which Truth often brings about when destroying error.
Although this book contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb its whole meaning by skimming it. Science and Health needs to be studied. As the rules of scientific healing are discovered, practiced, and demonstrated you will become secure on the groundwork of divine Science. Your healing experiences will lift you high above fossilized human theories and enable you to grasp the spiritual facts of being, even if at first the facts don’t seem accessible or crystal clear.
We feel secure in God’s goodness when we try to demonstrate, even a little bit at a time, the divine Principle of the teachings and practice of the Teacher.
The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings and its government is divine Science. We each are the offspring of the highest qualities of Mind. We understand spiritual existence in proportion to our understanding of Truth and Love. Humans must gravitate Godward. Humans will become more humane as their desires and aims grow spiritual. As sin and mortality are discarded, humanity catches the broader interpretations of being and secures a lasting sense of the infinite.
The confidence inspired by Science lies in the fact that Truth is real and Truth’s opposite is unreal, an error and a coward before Truth. Divine Science insists that time will prove all this. Both truth and error have come nearer than ever before to the perception of human beings, and truth will continue to appear as error is self-destroyed.
