Golden text: Matthew 10:21-23*

“When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don’t quit. Don’t cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you’ve run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.

II Kings 13:14-19

14 Elisha came down sick. It was the sickness of which he would soon die. Jehoash king of Israel paid him a visit. When he saw him he wept openly, crying, “My father, my father! Chariot and horsemen of Israel!”

15 Elisha told him, “Go and get a bow and some arrows.” The king brought him the bow and arrows.

16 Then he told the king, “Put your hand on the bow.” He put his hand on the bow. Then Elisha put his hand over the hand of the king.

17 Elisha said, “Now open the east window.” He opened it.

Then he said, “Shoot!” And he shot.

“The arrow of God’s salvation!” exclaimed Elisha. “The arrow of deliverance from Aram! You will do battle against Aram until there’s nothing left of it.”

18 “Now pick up the other arrows,” said Elisha. He picked them up.

Then he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground.”

The king struck the ground three times and then quit.

19 The Holy Man became angry with him: “Why didn’t you hit the ground five or six times? Then you would beat Aram until he was finished. As it is, you’ll defeat him three times only.”

Error must be compelled to quit itself and thereby deprive physical sense of its claim against God.

To say that there is no sickness, does not heal the sick. You have to know there is no sickness. Ignorance, subtlety, or false charity does not forever conceal error; evil will in time uncover and punish itself. A balanced system and mind, mentally sustained by Truth, goes on naturally. When sin or sickness—the reverse of harmony—seems real to fleshly sense, calmly and honestly encourage the patient with truth and spiritual understanding, which destroy disease. Expose and denounce the claims of evil and disease in all their forms, but realize no reality in them. Sinners are not reformed merely by assuring them that they cannot be sinners because there is no sin. To put down the claim of sin, you must detect it, remove the disguise, point out the deception, and thus get the victory over sin and prove its unreality.

The life of false egos is found to have no resemblance to divine Life. Its false claims are fickle implications of an existence which ends in quitting. Mistaken mentalities charge their lies to Truth and repeats: “The Lord knows false egos and allowed dysfunction.” But, what’s happening here is that error is participating in its own nature, regurgitating its own false nature. If we believe dysfunction is a part of God’s eternity, our spiritual path will be full of obstacles. If we regard Mind as both reliable and unreliable, then every sin or fleeting pain and pleasure seems normal.

Truth has no starting point. Divine Mind is our Soul and gives us unending dominion to image forth good. We were not crafted from an indefensible basis. We were not commanded to obey human laws which Spirit never made. Our sphere is in the higher law of Mind.

II Kings 13:20-23

20-21 Then Elisha died and they buried him.

Some time later, raiding bands of Moabites, as they often did, invaded the country. One day, some men were burying a man and spotted the raiders. They threw the man into Elisha’s tomb and got away. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came alive, stood up, and walked out on his own two feet.

Miracles are natural in Science, taking issue with popular religions. The scientific manifestation of power is from the divine nature and is not supernatural, since Science is an explanation of nature. The belief that the universe and people are governed in general by physical laws, but occasionally Spirit intervenes those laws, belittles omnipotent wisdom and gives to matter the precedence over Spirit.

From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over mortality. Moses proved the power of Mind by what people called miracles; as did Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha. What was eventually tagged the Christian era was ushered in with signs and wonders, yet the reformations were accompanied by bloodshed and persecution, even when the end showed brightness and peace. The present new, yet old, reform in religious faith will patiently and wisely teach us not to give in to sectarian bitterness when it flows inward.

We are inundated with feelings and affirmations that life exists in the physical body, yet we remember that in reality God is our Life and consciousness.

We think of an absent friend as easily as we do a present friend. It is just as easy to read distant thoughts as near. We read the thoughts of the deceased through their writings. Chaucer[1] wrote centuries ago, yet we still read his thought in his verse. What is study of the classics, but the discernment of the minds, even the minds of Homer,[2] and Virgil,[3] of whose personal existence we may be in doubt? But, there is no real communication.

In a world where sin and sensuality scramble to rise in the ranks of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether we are being influenced by the human mind or the divine Mind.

Only Science can explain the incredible good and evil elements that keep surfacing. Human beings must find protection in Truth in order to escape the errors of today. Nothing is more antagonistic to divine Science than a blind belief without understanding, for such belief hides Truth and builds on error.

Psalms 22: 25-28

Here in this great gathering for worship I have discovered this praise-life. And I’ll do what I promised right here in front of the God-worshipers. Down-and-outers sit at God’s table and eat their fill. Everyone on the hunt for God is here, praising him. “Live it up, from head to toe. Don’t ever quit!”

27-28 From the four corners of the earth
people are coming to their senses,
are running back to God.
Long-lost families
are falling on their faces before him.
God has taken charge;
from now on he has the last word.

Mind-science teaches mortals “Don’t get tired of helping others.”[4] It dissipates fatigue to do good deeds. In service to our Maker, generosity will not deprive us, likewise, holding back our wealth does not make us richer. Our strength is increased with our increased understanding of truth. Strength is not minimized by voicing truth. Caffeine and other related stimulants aren’t equal to truth when needing energy or inspiration.

Debra Lynne Katz, a professional clairvoyant reader, healer, and spiritual counselor, says in her book, You are Psychic: The Art of Clairvoyant Reading & Healing, “We are all energetically connected.” Katz also shares with readers the importance of not continuously expecting to be strengthened by other people’s energy, “The best energy, or fuel, for your body is your own.”[5] This is valuable advice, preparing human thought to take the next step of recognizing divine Spirit as the infinite source of divine strength and immortality. Human energy is mortal and claims separate spirits, whereas divine energy unites consciousness to God, the one immortal Spirit.

The sick knows nothing of the mental process by which they are weakened, and next to nothing of the metaphysical method by which they can be healed. If they ask about their disease, tell them only what is best for them to know. Assure them that they think too much about their ailments and have already heard too much on that subject. Turn their thoughts away from their bodies to better ideas. Teach them that their being is sustained by Spirit, not by the physical situation, and that they find health, peace, and harmony in God, divine Love.

Give sick people credit for sometimes knowing more than their doctors. Always support the patient’s trust in the power of Mind to support the body. Never tell the sick that they have more courage than strength. Tell them rather that their strength is in proportion to their courage. If you make the sick realize this important principle, there will be no reaction from over-exertion or from excited conditions. Maintain the facts of divine Science—that Spirit is God and therefore cannot be sick; that what is termed physical cannot be sick; that all cause is Mind, acting through spiritual law. Then take a strong mental stand with the unshaken understanding of Truth and Love, and you will win. When you silence the opposition against your prayer, you destroy the manifest disorder, for the disease disappears.

Millions of unprejudiced minds are waiting and looking for rest and drink. They are simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers thirsty in the desert. Give them a cup of cold water[6] with Christ’s attitude and never fear the consequences. But watch out, because the old dragon may cause a torrential uproar to drown the Christ-idea. However, the dragon can’t destroy “an instrument through which only truth can speak.”[7] The truth of being will be understood. The earth will help. People who are ready for the blessing will give you thanks. The river will be calmed, and Christ will command the wave.
