Golden text: Hebrews 6:19-20

19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Genesis 49: 1-2, 13

Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come. “Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob,
listen to Israel your father.

13“Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea; he shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon.”

Spirit blesses, but we cannot “tell where it comes from or where it is going.”[1] By Spirit the sick are healed, the stressed are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science.

Can the eternal dwell in the temporal or know anything unlike the infinite? Can Deity be known through the physical senses? Can the physical senses, which receive no direct evidence of Spirit, give correct testimony as to spiritual life, truth, and love? The answer to all those questions must forever be in the negative.

The physical senses cannot secure proof of God. Spirit isn’t tactile to flesh. Spirit isn’t seen through the physical eye, isn’t heard through the ear, isn’t tasted or smelled by means of technology. Despite their sophistication our physical senses and technology are quite pathetic, unable to detect microscopic particles which are only known by the effects commonly attributed to them.

According to Christian Science, the only real senses are Christ-like and come from divine Mind through revelation. Thought passes from God to us. Sense and information do not go from brain to Mind. The intercommunication is always from God to existence.

Judges 1:1-2, 27-28, 30

After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel inquired of the Lord, “Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?” The Lord said, “Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand.”

And the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem and captured it and struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.

27 Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages, for the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. 28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not drive them out completely.

30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol, so the Canaanites lived among them, but became subject to forced labor.

There is neither place nor opportunity in Science for error of any sort. Every day makes its demands upon us for better proofs rather than verbal claims of Christian power. These proofs replace sin, sickness, and death with the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress and progress is the law of God whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfill.

Surrounded by imperfection, perfection is seen and acknowledged only by degrees. People slowly work toward perfection. How long it must be before we arrive at the demonstration of scientific being, no person knows—not even “the son, but only the Father.”[2] The false claim of error continues its delusions until the goal of goodness is steadfastly earned and won.

I Chronicles 12:23-24, 38-40

23 These are the numbers of the divisions of the armed troops who came to David in Hebron to turn the kingdom of Saul over to him, according to the word of the Lord. 24 The men of Judah bearing shield and spear were 6,800 armed troops.

38 All these, men of war, arrayed in battle order, came to Hebron with a whole heart to make David king over all Israel. Likewise, all the rest of Israel were of a single mind to make David king. 39 And they were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had made preparation for them. 40 And also their relatives, from as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food on donkeys and on camels and on mules and on oxen, abundant provisions of flour, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, and wine and oil, oxen and sheep, for there was joy in Israel.

A sweet fragrance becomes favorable only as it escapes into the surrounding atmosphere. The same is true regarding our knowledge of Truth. Spiritual understanding shared, can help waken others who are overrun with negativity. It’s similar to waking someone up from a paralyzing nightmare, and if the awakened person doesn’t argue or resist Truth, they will be helped. The substance of Truth not only banishes temporal evidence with spiritual evidence, but also removes the stench of vile traits.

Science relates to immutable Mind, not mutable matter. It rests on fixed Principle and not upon the judgment of false sensation. The logic involved in divine Science is based on the premise that Truth is ever truthful. All conclusions made in Science must compute harmonious truth. The logic of Science cannot tolerate error, disorder, or contradictions in premise or conclusion.

If you wish to discover the spiritual fact, then mentally perceive the limited situation you are in. It makes no difference whether the situation agrees or disagrees with your preconceptions.

If we pray to God as though God is a measurable person, human doubts and fears rear their ugly heads and become obstacles. Because of the human mind’s unawareness of God as divine Spirit, there is an unawareness of true Love, to whom all things are possible. This spiritual unawareness sees Love as a gendered creator and ruler, thereby causing people to see themselves as merely physical and susceptible to mortality. God is immaterial Love and we can grasp the wonders brought by Love. We can see ourselves as images of God through spiritual consciousness.

Matthew 4:1-17

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. 12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people dwelling in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,
on them a light has dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

The nature of spirituality is peaceful and blessed. To enter the realm of Spirit, our anchor of hope must be thrown past the veil of matter into the Shekinah that Jesus showed us.

Jesus’ example was all-inclusive; not only was his life’s work carried out to the end for himself, but his demonstration also shows us how to work out our own deliverance. We must do what he did and what he taught us to do. His purpose in healing was not just to restore human health, but to demonstrate his divine Principle. He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did. His persecutors were motivated by arrogance, envy, cruelty, and vengeance, inflicted on the physical Jesus, but aimed at the divine Principle, Love—the same Love that rebuked their unspiritual mindsets.

Jesus was unselfish. His spirituality made it possible for Jesus to heal the sick, drive out evil, and raise the dead.

Today, as yesterday, Christ drives out the errors of evil and heals the sick.

While dwelling on a physical plane, human terms must generally be employed to speak of the things of Spirit. It takes time for human thought to adjust to the higher meaning. Thought must be educated to perceive spirituality. To a certain extent, improved thought is necessary in all learning, even in the secular field.

God, Spirit, dwelling in infinite light and harmony from which emanates the true idea, is never reflected by anything but the good.

In conscience, we can’t stay in a mindset we have outgrown.

Continue to recognize the nothingness of illusions—stay on the path Science is walking—and the ingrained illusions of human beings will be replaced with reality.
