Golden text: Proverbs 16:6*

Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

Ezekiel 45:13-20

“‘This is the special gift you are to offer: a sixth of an ephah from each homer of wheat and a sixth of an ephah from each homer of barley. 14 The prescribed portion of olive oil, measured by the bath, is a tenth of a bath from each cor (which consists of ten baths or one homer, for ten baths are equivalent to a homer). 15 Also one sheep is to be taken from every flock of two hundred from the well-watered pastures of Israel. These will be used for the grain offerings, burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to make atonement for the people, declares the Sovereign Lord. 16 All the people of the land will be required to give this special offering to the prince in Israel. 17 It will be the duty of the prince to provide the burnt offerings, grain offerings and drink offerings at the festivals, the New Moons and the Sabbaths—at all the appointed festivals of Israel. He will provide the sin offerings, grain offerings, burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to make atonement for the Israelites.

18 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In the first month on the first day you are to take a young bull without defect and purify the sanctuary. 19 The priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the four corners of the upper ledge of the altar and on the gateposts of the inner court. 20 You are to do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sins unintentionally or through ignorance; so you are to make atonement for the temple.

The path of divine Science is less difficult to follow when the high goal is always before the thoughts. This is in contrast to counting every single little footstep while endeavoring to reach the better goal. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress. The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, restful instead of weary.

Unite with the truth of being as opposed to the ingrained error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Pray with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unmistaken, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your faithfulness is half equal to the truth of your prayer, you will heal the sick.

If you want your colon, uterus, or lungs to stay healthy, with excellent capacity, be always ready with a mental protest against an unhealthy belief. Dismiss all notions about inflammation, inherited disease, weak lungs, or suffering, arising from any circumstance, and you will find that human mind, when instructed by Truth, allows the body to be guided into health by means of divine power.

The conservative theory, embedded into society’s belief system, is that there are two factors, matter and mind, uniting on some impossible basis. This theory would keep truth and error always at battle, however victory for either side would never come. On the other hand, divine Science efficiently shows Truth to be triumphant. All the evidence of, and all the knowledge obtained from physical sense must yield to Science, to the immortal truth of all things. The misguiding physical senses are yielding whether they want to admit it or not. Physical sense can no longer contradict the heliocentric theory even though they see and feel it not.

Matthew 20:17-28

Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, 18 “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”

20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.

21 “What is it you want?” he asked.

She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”

22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”

“We can,” they answered.

23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”

24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Are you drinking his cup? Have you shared the persecutions that attend a new and higher understanding of God? Are you willing to take up the cross and leave all for the Christ-principle? Are you eating bread and drinking wine to honor Jesus, or just to remember him for a few minutes? Why assign the inspiration of Eucharist to an anesthetic ritual? Instead, we want to show that Truth has come to the understanding, by driving out error and making our bodies “holy and pleasing to God”?[1]

The act of allowing our thoughts to excessively contemplate physical wants or conditions induces those very conditions.

Some invalids are unwilling to know the spiritual facts. They don’t want to hear about the deception of temporal things and false laws. They even devote themselves a little longer to their material gods and cling to a mortal life and intelligence.

Every twinge of conscience and agony, every effort to reform, every improved attitude and undertaking, will help us not only understand Jesus’ atonement, but also promote its usefulness. Mortals, asleep at the wheel of spiritual progress, cannot habitually pray and repent and still feel included in the atonement—in the at-one-ment with God. Repentance is more than contrition or feeling really bad. It must be lived out with sincerity. Effective repentance reforms thinking and enables human beings to do the will of wisdom.

Having one God, one Mind, unfolds the power that heals the sick. These Scriptural sayings are then realized. “I am the Lord, who heals you,”[2] and “I have found a ransom (a price of redemption, an atonement)!”[3] When the divine precepts are understood, they reveal cooperation between creatures, because we all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, compatible to the Scriptural command: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”[4] We, and our Maker have a reciprocal relationship in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God.

Romans 3:21-25

But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—

From 21st Century Science and health

The pains of sinful sense are less harmful than its pleasures. When human beings realize they no longer want to believe in physical suffering, they turn from the body to Spirit and call on divine sources outside of themselves.

We don’t want to neglect the divine power which heals the sick and sinning.

Common sense and common humanity are to be highly regarded; otherwise, what mental quality remains, with which to call forth healing from the extended arm of righteousness?

Divine Mind, God assigns sure rewards to spiritual righteousness and shows that matter cannot heal or make sick, create or destroy.

Christ’s conciliation unites person to God, not God to human beings. The divine Principle of Christ is God and God doesn’t atone to Himself. It is therefore Christ’s purpose to bring us to God.

To suppose that oppression for righteousness’ sake belongs to the past, and that Christianity today is at peace with the world because it is honored by sects and societies, is to mistake the very nature of religion. Misguided mindsets repeat themselves. The trials encountered by prophet, disciple, and apostle, of “whom the world was not worthy,”[5] stalks every pioneer of truth.

Unite with the divine Principle of spiritual Science; practice the intent of Spirit; and remain sincere in wisdom, Truth, and Love. In the Science of Mind, you will eventually figure out that error cannot destroy error. You will also learn in Science, that the transfer of negative suggestions from one human being to another can be proven unreal, for there is but one Mind. This ever-present omnipotent Mind expresses the entire universe and is reflected by us. The first responsibility in divine Science is to adapt to Soul, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself.
