Golden text: by Brett Jones

“I will love you so you can change, not change you so I can love you.”

Romans 2: 1-11

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, 10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. 11 For God shows no partiality.

Love is impartial and universal in its spiritualization and generosity.

God is Love.

Love is intelligence.

Universal facts naturally trigger anything that is false to work against its self, bringing error out from under cover. It requires courage to voice truth.

The great fact that God lovingly controls all—which naturally causes the self-punishment of anything that works against Life, Truth, and Love—is your standpoint from which to advance and destroy the human fear of sickness. Mentally and silently plead the case scientifically for Truth. You may adapt the reasoning to meet the peculiar or general symptoms of the case you treat, but be thoroughly persuaded in your own mind concerning the truth which you think or speak, and you will be the winner.

You may call the disease by name when you mentally deny it; however in some circumstances, you are liable to impress disease on the thought by naming it audibly. The power of Christ’s Science and divine Love is omnipotent, indeed adequate, to unlock the grip of and destroy disease, sin, and death.

Romans 2: 12-16

For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

From 21st Century Science and Health

A little girl, who had occasionally listened to my explanations, badly wounded her finger. She seemed not to notice the wound. On being questioned about it she answered ingenuously, “There is no sensation in matter.” Running off with happy eyes, she presently added, “Mamma, my finger is not a bit sore.”

It might have been months or years before the child’s parents would have laid aside their drugs or reached the mental height their little daughter so naturally attained. The stubborn beliefs and theories of parents often choke the good seed in the minds of their offspring and themselves.

Justice declares the presence of law. Injustice declares the absence of law. When the body says, “I am sick,” never plead guilty to your judgmental human mind that will pronounce a sentence of sickness. Since matter can’t talk, it must be human mind which speaks; therefore, meet the implication, “I am sick,” with a protest against sickness to yourself, but be fair to others if you need to tell them you have a contagious illness. Disease has no intelligence to declare itself something and announce its name. Human mortal mind alone sentences itself. Therefore, make your own terms with sickness and be just to yourself and to others.

The only course is to take antagonistic grounds against all that is opposed to the health, holiness, and harmony of our spirituality, of God’s image. Mentally contradict every complaint from the body. Evolve into the spiritual consciousness of Life as Love—as all that is pure, and bearing the fruits of Spirit.

Romans 2: 17-29

But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God 18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law; 19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law. 24 For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

25 For circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. 26 So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? 27 Then he who is physically uncircumcised but keeps the law will condemn you who have the written code and circumcision but break the law. 28 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. 29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

The tribal Yahweh was a human-projected God, liable to wrath, repentance, and human moodiness. The Christian Science God is unchanging, universal, eternal, divine Love.

Creeds and rituals still need to wash their hands of religious lore.

Human-made rituals are but types and shadows of true worship. “The true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.”[1]

Healing prayer doesn’t try to change God, because God is unchanging wisdom and Life. Prayer instead adapts us to wisdom and Life.

We may desire more righteousness, but is it a desire to be right with God, or to be right in the eyes of human beings? The motives for prayer will be exposed. You can’t hide ulterior motives.

Mechanical prayers or knee-jerk rituals are not progressive. Prayer is a privilege, not to be taken for granted or abused.

God’s work is done. We reflect the doing. The doing is not busy work reacting to our own personal desires or the world’s demands, but a logical, spiritual, helpful, brave response to God’s work—a prayer.

Prayer is the faith that all things positive and good are possible to God. Fed by selfless love, faith grows into spiritual understanding and reveals remarkable experiences.

Silent prayer, spiritual awareness, and obedience come with the grace of Love. We are worthy of Love’s grace. We can be patient with ourselves and with others, because in this complicated world most of us are rookies at internalizing the divine character.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 13: 34

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

From 21st Century Science and Health

Seeking is insufficient. Just saying you accept Christ Jesus is moot. An all-out effort to “do” enables us to change for the better and know eternity. Spiritual achievements open the door to a higher understanding of divine Life.

Love will finally mark the hour of harmony and spiritualization will follow, for Love is Spirit. Before error is wholly destroyed there will be interruptions of the general human routine. Earth will become dreary and desolate, but summer and winter, seedtime and harvest (though in changed forms) will continue to the end—until the final spiritualization of all things. C. S. Lewis illustrates the idea of Spirit’s force in his novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.[2] Main character, Aslan, was killed in lieu of Edmonds. Susan and Lucy (Edmond’s sisters) saw Aslan’s death and were miserable, feeling as if life had stopped, until Lucy noticed light was appearing in the horizon and lively modest activity was going on around Aslan, eventually to prove that Life and Love never end.

Quoting “from science & religion to God”

You can become conscious right now of the wellbeing and intelligence that is purely divine. You’ve been given authority—not to manage sin, sickness, or other people—but to experience the consciousness of intelligence, wellbeing, Truth and Love.
