Golden text: Psalms 68:20*

Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.

Hebrews 9:8-14

The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.

10 They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

No final judgment awaits mortals. There is no time. The judgment day of wisdom comes thought by thought, by which human beings are deprived of all erroneous thoughts. As for spiritual error there is none.

If the change called death destroyed the complaining, hurting, and dying thinking, happiness would be won at the moment of demise; but this is not so. Cells are constantly dying in our bodies. They who are unrighteous shall be unrighteous still until Truth removes all ignorance and sin. Perfection is gained only by perfection.

In conscience, we can’t stay in a mindset we have outgrown. We are enabled to heal the sick and overcome sin by understanding more of the divine Principle of the deathless Christ.

Hebrews 9:15-22

15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

16 In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, 17 because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. 18 This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. 19 When Moses had proclaimed every command of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. 20 He said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.” 21 In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies. 22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Luke 17:20-21

20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

The fear and negativity which possess us at the instant of death do not cease, but endure until the death of the fearful and negative consciousness. If a murderer died, the horrible murderous intent isn’t forsaken just because the body died. Thought improves only when the cruel mind is disarmed by good. The body is as materialistic as the mind, and vice versa. To be wholly spiritual, we must be Godlike and we become that way only when we reach perfection.

Mortals do not need to delude themselves by thinking the experience of death will awaken them to glorified being.

It is just as impossible for sinners to receive their full punishment on this side of the grave as it is for the righteous to receive their full reward. A selfish and narrow mind may be unjust, but divine Mind is the immortal law of justice and mercy. It is inapt to think the wicked can gloat over their offences, die, and go to heaven. It is incorrect to think that Love is satisfied by giving us only stressful work, losses, cross-bearing, trials, and tribulations. God doesn’t mock us in return for our efforts at well doing.

Hebrews 9:23-28

23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Jesus earned perpetual respect. He overcame the world, the flesh, and all error, thereby proving their nothingness. He affected a full salvation from sin, sickness, and death. We need “Christ and him crucified.”[1] Human beings must have trials and self-denials, as well as joys and victories, until all error is destroyed.

The educated belief that Soul is in the body causes human beings to regard death as a friend. The Bible calls death an enemy. Jesus defeated death and the grave, because death is not a steppingstone out of mortality, into immortality and bliss. Life and living is “the way.”[2]

Now is the time for temporary pains and pleasures to pass away, for both are unreal. To break this earthly spell, human beings must get the true idea and divine Principle of all that really exists. The understanding of what governs the universe harmoniously is comprehended slowly, and comes with doubts and disappointments, as well as successes.

We bow before Christ, Truth, to receive more of Spirit’s reappearing. We commune silently with the divine Principle, Love. We celebrate Christ’s victory over death, his probation in the flesh, and his final ascension above matter (flesh).

Matthew 16:24-28

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

From 21st Century Science and Health

The fleshly Jesus was not one with the Father, but the spiritual idea, Christ is. Christ dwells forever in the bosom of the Maker, God, from which it illumines heaven and earth.

Universal salvation rests on spiritual improvement and proof, and is unattainable without them. Heaven is not a locality, but a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal because sin is not there and God’s person is found having no self-righteousness, but is in possession of “the mind of the Lord,”[3] as the Scripture say.

The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and aims the feet in the true path—the path which leads to “a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”[4]

Heaven represents harmony. Divine Science interprets the Principle of heavenly harmony. The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand purpose of life is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in us. This goal is never reached while we hate our neighbor or get hung up on a person whom God has appointed to voice His Word. The message, not the messenger is the point, and this correct sense allows us to see the highest visible idea and understand its divine Principle.

Death. An illusion, the lie of life in human finite mind; the unreal and untrue; that which is contrary to Life.

Hell. Mortal belief; error; lust; regret; hatred; revenge; sin; sickness; death; suffering and self-destruction; self-imposed agony; effects of sin; that which “is shameful or deceitful.”[5]

Heaven. Harmony; the rule of one Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; happiness; the atmosphere of Soul.
