Golden text: Acts 24: 14*
I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets.
Joshua 10: 5-10, 12-14
[T]he five kings of the Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon—joined forces. They moved up with all their troops and took up positions against Gibeon and attacked it.
6 The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, because all the Amorite kings from the hill country have joined forces against us.”
7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with his entire army, including all the best fighting men. 8 The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.”
9 After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. 10 The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon.
12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

Miracles are misunderstood and misused by many until the glorious Principle of these marvels is gained.
The truth of Mind shows conclusively how it is that matter seems to be, but is not. Divine Science, rising above physical theories, excludes matter, resolves things into thoughts, and replaces the objects of physical sense with spiritual ideas.
I introduced the term CHRISTIAN SCIENCE to designate the scientific system of divine healing.
The revelation consists of two parts:
- The discovery of this divine Science of Mind-healing, through a spiritual sense of Scriptures and through the teachings of the Counselor, as promised by Jesus.
- The proof, by present-day demonstration, that the miracles of Jesus did not specially belong to a privileged few or at a time now ended. Miracles illustrate an ever-operative divine Principle which indicates an eternal scientific order and continuity of being.
Mystery or miracle is not included in Science, just as it is not included in the science of numbers. The Science of God, Spirit, cannot be denied its right to the name of Science. The Principle of divine metaphysics is God; the practice of divine metaphysics is the utilization of the power of Truth over error; its rules demonstrate its Science.
What is termed physical sense can report only a mortal temporary sense of things, whereas spiritual sense can bear witness only to Truth. To human sense, the unreal is the real until this sense is corrected by Christian Science.
Genesis 32: 24-32
24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”
But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”
31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon.

Jacob was alone, wrestling with error—struggling with all his flesh was saying about pleasures and pains—when an angel, a message from Truth and Love appeared to Jacob and struck the sinew, or strength of the fleshly talk, until he perceived its unreality. Truth, being thereby understood, gave Jacob spiritual strength in this Peniel of divine Science. Then the angel said: “Let me go, for it is daybreak;” that is, the light of Truth and Love dawns on you. But the patriarch, perceiving his faulty thinking and his need of improvement, did not loosen his hold on this glorious light until his nature was transformed. The angel asked Jacob what his name was. Jacob told him and the angel said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.” Jacob asked his deliverer, “Please tell me your name.” However, a specific name was withheld. The messenger was not a corporeal being, but a nameless, bodiless communication of divine Love—giving a spiritual sense of being which rebuked a materialist sense. Likewise, the Psalmist experienced this same touch of Love, and remarked that it restored his Soul.
The result of Jacob’s wrestling became apparent. He had conquered the human mindset with the new understanding of Spirit and of spiritual power. This changed the man. He was no longer called Jacob, but Israel—a prince of God, or a soldier of God, who had fought a good fight.
Luke 13: 18-21
Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
20 Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
Matthew 6: 1, 6
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
6when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

A little yeast raises all the dough. A little understanding of Science proves the truth of all that I say of it. Because you can’t walk on the water and raise the dead, you have no right to question the great might of divine Science in these directions. Be thankful that Jesus, who was the true demonstrator of Science, did these things and left his example for us. In Science we can use only what we understand. We must prove our faith by demonstration.
People should not linger in the storm if the body is freezing, nor should they remain in a contaminated environment. Until a person is able to prevent bad results, it is best to avoid adverse situations. To be discouraged is to resemble a student who is at an elementary level of mathematics and yet attempts to solve a problem of Euclid, only to deny the rule of the problem because the first effort brought failure.
There is no hypocrisy in Science. Principle is imperative. You can’t mock it by human will. Science is a divine demand, not human.
As we tune into divine Science, Truth and Love buffer confused mentalities and thereby invigorate and sustain existence. Knowledge picked up by the five senses is disposable. What we commonly call natural science, is not really natural, complete, or scientific, because it assumes matter is the basis of nature. Ideas, on the contrary, are from Spirit and are the true foundation of nature.
The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind—that God is Love, and therefore Mind is divine Principle.
