Golden text: Romans 8: 5-6*
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Jeremiah 23: 16-20
Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17 They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’”
18 For who among them has stood in the council of the Lord
to see and to hear his word,
or who has paid attention to his word and listened?
19 Behold, the storm of the Lord!
Wrath has gone forth,
a whirling tempest;
it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the Lord will not turn back
until he has executed and accomplished
the intents of his heart.
In the latter days you will understand it clearly.
Jeremiah 17: 5-10
Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 He is like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.
7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
9 The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
10 “I the Lord search the heart
and test the mind,
to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds.”

According to both medical knowledge and individual experience, a drug may eventually lose its power and do no more for patients. Diseases become drug resistant. Feel-good concoctions fail to inspire the unsuspecting minds, and patients cease to improve. These lessons are useful. They should naturally and genuinely change our basis from physical science to divine Science, from error to Truth, from human mind to Mind.
Physicians measure the pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, and intensity of pain in order to discover the physical condition of matter, when in fact all is Mind. The body is a figment of the imagination of the human mind. The false mind must succumb to the order of spiritual Mind.
Discussions on disease have a mental effect similar to that produced when telling ghost stories in the dark. When we haven’t been instructed in divine Science, nothing is really understood of temporal existence. Human beings are believed to be here without their consent and to be removed as involuntarily, not knowing why or when. As frightened children look everywhere for the imaginary ghost, so sick humanity sees danger in every direction, and looks for relief in all ways except the right one. Darkness stimulates fear. Adults who constantly refer to physical knowledge no more comprehend their real spiritual being than does the child. Adult and child must be taken out of their darkness before the illusive sufferings, which block the light, can be dissolved. The way in divine Science is the only way out of fearful conditions.
I would not transform the infant immediately into an adult, nor would I keep the infant a lifelong newborn. No impossible thing do I ask when urging the claims of Christian Science; but because this teaching is in advance of the times, we should not deny our need of its spiritual unfoldment. Humanity will improve through Science and spirituality. The necessity for spiritualizing humanity comes from the fact that Mind can do it. Mind, God, can impart purity instead of impurity, strength instead of weakness, and health instead of disease. Truth improves the entire system, and can heal “the whole body.”
Remember, brain is not mind. Physical particles cannot be sick and Mind is everlastingly immortal. The human body is an erroneous conviction that mind is divisible and measurable.
Mark 8: 27-33
27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.
31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
Psalms 119: 113-117
I hate the double-minded,
but I love your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in your word.
115 Depart from me, you evildoers,
that I may keep the commandments of my God.
116 Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live,
and let me not be put to shame in my hope!
117 Hold me up, that I may be safe
and have regard for your statutes continually!

The disciples understood their Teacher better than other people, yet still questioned Jesus because they didn’t fully comprehend what he said. Jesus patiently persisted in teaching and demonstrating the truth of being.
He appealed to his students: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” That is: Who or what is identified with driving out evils and healing the sick? They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” These prophets were considered dead, and this reply may indicate that some of the people believed that Jesus was a medium, controlled by the spirit of John or Elijah.
Rejecting their first answer and longing to be understood, Jesus repeated, “Who do you say I am?” He discarded the narrow-minded opinions or rumors about himself. The renewed inquiry meant: Who or what is it that is able to do the work so mysterious to the popular human mind?
With his usual impetuosity, Simon replied for the disciples. His reply set forward a great fact: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” That is: The Messiah is what you have declared—Christ, the spirit of God, of Truth, Life, and Love, which heals mentally.
It is believed by many that Jesus’ rebukes were serious; he used strong language. The only polite comment Jesus had for error was, “Get behind me, Satan!” His words support the necessity for a sharp, penetrating, mental stand when driving out devils and healing the sick. Does the evidence show us that downward spiraling thinking is reversed due to a forceful and direct mindset, backed by Spirit? Error must be compelled to quit itself. The false human perceptions must be replaced by true perceptions.
II Thessalonians 2
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14 To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

People are the reflection of Soul, the direct opposite of tactile matter, and Soul is the one Ego. We run into error when we divide Ego into egos or multiply Mind into minds. Misunderstandings occur when we suppose error to be mind, mind to be in matter and matter to be a lawgiver. We feel stuck between a rock and a hard place when we assume unintelligence is to act like intelligence or that mortality is the matrix of immortality.
The narrow-minded intellect rankles by the constant need to be responsible to infinite Mind.
Who would hold a calculator in their hand and pray for the science of mathematics to solve a math problem? The rule is already established, and it is our responsibility to work out the solution. Will we ask the divine Principle to solve what has already been solved? It is better to make our minds and bodies available to follow God’s rule, because we then can receive Love’s blessing and work out our own salvation.
